Default Platinum Case from Best Buy

Please Login to Remove!

Today I was at Best Buy and found a case and clip I liked for the phone. At first I had to ask the salesman if they had any for the 8500 series. He was ho-hum about it and showed me this one. I looked at it, and said ok; I'll get it. The first thing I do when I get in the car is put it together, and use it.
After leaving Best Buy; I go to visit the wife at work. I showed it to her, but I noticed that the screen went black and none of the keys are working, so I was thinking that the battery went dead. When I get home I go to plug it in, and I take it out of the clip and it comes on. I was like "what the fck"?!? So I continue to plug it in and I go to put it back in the clip and the screen goes black again. Again I think "what the fck"?!? So I grab the package it came in and look all over the package for instructions. There is very little instructions on the package. Then I look closer at the botton and it says "smart sleep holster" in small letters. It says that it "saves battery life by putting phone to sleep". I really didn't find it a big deal, and thought it was kinda cool. Til the phone rang! I couldn't answer it, or nothing it just continued to ring.
If I can't answer the phone while its on the clip; then this battery saver thing is JUNK!

Has anyone else used this item for their phone?
its called "Platinum; Perfect Case Chemistry" with Pt in a square. Item number BVC29SB by Seidio Inc. Seidio

This is the 'In Holster' mode for BlackBerry. When your phone rings you simply remove the phone to answer the call. The clip will have a little magnet inside it which trips a magnetic switch inside the phone. You can also have different profile settings for when the phone is in and out of the clip.

I'm not really fond of that feature. If I have a call coming in; I dont want to have to fumble to get the phone out of the holster to answer it. I should be able to pull the clip, phone and all off of my belt and answer the phone while its in the clip.

This feature has been with Blackberry's since their creation many years ago. Most people either like it or adapt.

It isn't the phone; its the clip. The clip doesn't have to have the magnet in it. If I was told about this feature in the clip in the first place; I wouldn't have bought it. I haven't had any other clip do this so I wouldn't know anything about this to ask.

I hate it.

You are wrong. It is the phone and the case that interact with each other. They are designed together for the purpose of putting the phone to sleep.

You are correct, but then it wouldn't be a true blackberry case.

Bring it back for a refund.

I don't care if it was a "true" blackberry clip, nor was I looking for a "true" blackberry case. I just want it to hold and protect my phone and nothing else. Had this been told to me, or been on the package I wouldn't have bought it. I think Im just going to take the magnet out! I like the clip just not the sleep mode BS.

Holsters aren't rocket science. If you don't like it then return it. Next time read the whole package.

I'm wondering how the poster answers a desk telephone. It must be uncomfortable holding the whole phone to his ear.

A clip is a clip. If no one has ever had a phone like this; like me, they wouldn't know there is such a POS feature as this. So why would anyone read the box of a clip. No one should have to read the small print on the back for a special feature. If there is a special feature it should be included on the front of the package.

Why does my car stop running when I remove the key? It doesn't have to. I wish the salesman had warned me about this.

I hate it.

You're the one who posted your own sciolism in a public forum... the more you post, the more they laugh, and then its like sharks and blood.

FWIW, the clip you have allows you to sleep or keyboard lock when holstered as well as having a different sound profile for being holstered, such as vibrate only. Its quite a handy feature, especially for those of us who walk upright and don't anger easily.
