Default .TiVo to 8800 via Media Manager

Alright, this is driving me nuts. Here's the problem. As you may or may not know (depending on whether you're a TiVo user or not), you can download TiVo programming to your computer from your TiVo. When you do that, it saves the file on your computer in a ".tivo" format. The programming can be "liberated" from that format using a variety of well-known programs (including the DirectShow Dump Utility and TiVo Decoder) and put into an .mpg format.

Here's the problem. When you try to take those .mpg's (created by using either the aforementioned DirectShow Dump Utility or TiVo Decoder) and convert and copy them to the 8800 via the Media Manager, it gives you an error and says it cannot be converted.

Does anyone have ANY idea what could possibly be the problem?

P.S. The .mpg's otherwise work just fine on the computer; in fact, when I convert those same .mpg's to .wmv's and then try to convert and copy them to the 8800 via the Media Manager, it works just fine. That's just a whole extra step (and significantly more time) than I want to get involved with.

My guess would be that they are in some form of mpeg codec that the converter does not understand.

I don't know enough about video files to know if ths is a stupid question or not, but is there a quick and easy way to change the codec without having to "re-convert" the whole file or is that an uninformed question?

Thanks.

The codec is basically the method for encoding and decoding the file. You'll have to re-encode them if that's the issue.
