The last time I had a problem with my 8830, I had to reinstall the OS. This was a major pain in the ass since I had to tell anyone who had me on their BBM to delete the old one and try to add me again since I did a wipe.

If I upgrade to 4.5, what happens to the BBM contacts?

In going through all the beta updates I have yet to loose my contacts.

Never lost them either, even when I had to use Jl_cmder to wipe one time for an upgrade, I was able to restore the BBM contacts.

Full device backup, you mean. I don't think my BBMessenger contacts sync with Outlook or anything. But if I have those PINs stored in my outlook contacts, then I will them for a re-invite if needed, true.
