with themes coming out that allow the apps to scroll along the side or the bottom, i was wondering if its possible to have just the text show up, instead of the actual icon. why you might ask? i'm going to attempt to create a theme like the Pipboy on Fallout 3.

If you are unsure I have an image of it attached.

In the image where it says ".32 Pistol, Assault Rifle, etc is where i'd want the icons to show up. the green square could be the "underlay" Up at the top wehre it says ITEMS would be the date, time, battery, etc. just not sure about the bottom.

It can be done, but it will be a bit of work.

I just made a Custom Today theme, and for all of the stuff I wanted on the main page, I used blank icons, a blank 48x36 image. I set the text to always be on, so that the words would show like that. That was before I made my own text icons. If you make them, then you can just use those.

see, thats kinda what i was thinking...use a blank/empty image and have it set so the text is to the left of it. where can i get a blank transparent "icon"? i know that the end product won't be exact, but if i can get it close i will be very happy....

also, could you possibly give me guidance on how to go about having the scrolling icons?

i know...i'm hoping i can do it.....im just not sure how to get scrolling icons/text...once i got that im golden lol

I cannot help you with the scrolling in Composer. I have no idea how to use that thing. I tried it once, and closed it. Gave up, threw in the towel, quit, etc. Way too complicated for me.

As for the blank icon, you can just create a completely transparent 48x36 image using most photo editing/creating programs. I use GIMP, or Poster Paint on my Mac, then transfer to the PC.

I don't know what it would look like if you just used a 1x1 transparent image, or something smaller than 48x36, it might take up less room. You can see that my "list" is moved over quite a bit. That was an issue that I couldn't get figured out.

If you want the application icons to show on the 'Icon Screen' you must use composer. If you replace the icons with blanks, you will have no icons showing on the icon screen which will be very hard to navigate your applications (I hope I am making sense). I made a custom theme for someone almost what your asking for. It is not hard if you know how to use composer and some knowledge of coding, but it is very time consuming.
Scrolling and hidden docks can be made for 81XX/82XX/83XX/90XX phones.

So where is some info about learning how to use composer to make scrolling icons? This would help mysel and skllndy out a lot with our themes.

I can use composer enough to make a dock, but what do I do with the animation part of the dock to make it scroll?

Here's a Fallout 3 Pip-Boy theme that looks really good:

However, when I tried it, the bottom icons weren't customizable, and the middle one didn't show up. Also, he didn't create icons for even the most common icons like Address Book. But it looks good.
