Are they sending a boxed retail kit or just the 8700?

Wonder where that FedEx guy is... nothing so far.

Mine is a boxed retail kit. Just like you got at the store or whatever.

Loading Rogers onto it now....

I know RIM wants us to ship our old ones back....but what do we ship back?? Everything....all accessories...battery...etc???

Anyone clear on this?

I need to ask you all a favor. Please DO NOT PIN me for the dust issue. Send a PM and I will respond as quickly as I can. I cannot be constantly interupted all day long with PIN messages on this issue. Your cooperation will be appreciated.

I get the feeling you're headed towards the witness protection program after this *deal of the decade*

Looking forward to reports from replacement owners as to how impervious these new units are to dust.

Default Just bought my 8700c and found this thread.

It is obvious that my "new" 8700c is one of the one's discussed here - you can obviously see light escaping around the various keys under the screen. How do you get your name on a list for RIM to call you? Or alternatively, how do I contact RIM to get a replacement unit?

Thanks

Mike

Unless it has dust under the screen you can't. Most of the units have light escaping around the keys. It is only if the gasket was misinstalled that RIM will replace the unit.

Thanks John. Since I've only had it three days I don't know whether dust will be a problem or not. We'll see.

Sorry barjohn, you're certainly referring to me as one of the perpetrators... I will use the forum from now on. But as a reminder, I still have not even gotten a call back from RIM yet, and I was one of the first to call in and leave a message with the guy you posted about.

I also owe you an apology for excessive PINNING! What information do you need for RIM to get a replacement request started?

thanks!

In this thread you will find:

So, yes, eventually you will get dust.

Elsewhere it mentions about a year.....

For those that have dust and that have not contacted me previously, please PM me. I have a canned response so it doesn't take me as much time to send you a response back. If you don't have the dust issue, please don't ask RIM for a replacement via this channel as all you will do is cause them to turn it off and hurt everyone that does have a legitimate dust problem. Other problems should be handled via warranty claim with Cingular or Rogers.

Well, no replacement BlackBerry's in the Seattle area today (at least for me). We did get our daily inch or so of rain, however.

I had a unit sent out last Friday for delivery today according to RIM, but FedEx must have had problems. :(

I got mine today. There was instructions on how to send the old unit back to RIM, but no word on what needs to be returned. When I was contacted by RIM the person told me to keep whatever accessories I needed. I don't necessarily need everything, but it would be nice to be able to keep the battery and AC charger. So, if anyone has any info on this please pass on the information. If not I'll probably send back all the older items since RIM did send me a complete retail boxed unit.

I emailed RIM today about what to return and the gentleman with whom I (and I believe all of us) have been dealing with said that as long as they get the device and the battery back, they will have no complaints.

What's interesting about my replacement unit is that it seems to have even wider gaps where the light escapes and the battery door is much looser than the device I'm returning. However, if the gasket issue has been fixed, that's all I care about. This is already my third device and hopefully my last.

Bummer about the battery door. I'll bet my (1st unit) door is looser than yours-- it rattles when using the speaker phone on any volume and has slop both side-to-side and up-and-down. I hope the replacement will be a bit tighter if not solid. Just makes it feel a tad cheap if you know what I mean.
