I have heard that many cases designed specifically for the bb7130e include what is referred to as a 'sleeper magnet'. How does this work? Is it a function of the case, the BB or a combination of both? What are its advantages/disadvantages? If one is purchasing a case or holster, is it worth considering one such item that may not include this feature (such as those from Naztech, Milante, etc.) or is it best to go with one that includes this feature (like gizmoskins, Seidio, etc.)?

I expect my new 7130e any day now, and will be picking up a case for it as well (I don't fancy the nylon oem case that much as it doesn't have a swivel clip - at least that's what I was told).

It can be setup to automatically lock the device as it enters the holster or auto answer a call as you remove it from the holster or have a different audio profile within the case. Some of the cases have the magnet in. They may mention sleeper function or anything on those lines.

The sleeper function is a combination of both the case and the BB. The BB has a magnet switch in it that another magnet in the case will activates. The case then in turn will do such things as turn the screen off and as mentioned above will allow the phone to autoanswer / hangup. The big feature for me is different ring / vibrate functions for in and out of the case. For me a case that doesn't have the magnet in it is a deal breaker.

Gizmoskins case for the 7130e says they have the sleeper magnet. Naztech cases have a magnet closure, but their website doesn't speak to whether they include sleeper magnet functionality as well.

I called bberry.com to see if they knew as they sell Naztech cases, but they couldn't answer the question either. The forum - which has been incredibly helpful in the past - is once again my final source of refuge to ask this question.

So - if a horizontal case has a magnet closure, does that automatically mean that the closure would work as a sleeper magnet as well? I am looking at the horizontal Naztech cases (form H5) in either the Sahara or Ultima line. It would save me around $20.00 from the gismoskins case - which is sold by a Canadian firm, but because they only deal in US$ it means I get hit with CDN taxes, but they are levied in US$. About $25 CDN of additional cost. That's almost an extra battery!
