Exclamation Verizon 7250 dead on arrival

Please Login to Remove!

Moderators - Sorry if this isn't in the right spot, please move as necessary.

We have about 10 BlackBerry's of different age around the office here, and a former T-Mobile user wanted to switch to Verizon and liked the footprint of the 7250 (all the rest of us have 7750's).

So we ordered it, got it out of the box, plugged it in to charge it up, and turned it on- Tried to activate by dialing *228 and discovered that the "*" (and A) key wouldn't work! I started a new message and ran through all the keys and found about half of them wouldn't work!!

Keys that WON'T work no matter how hard I push:
Power button
Cap lock
c
n
DEL
j
f
a
q
r
u
p

Looks like it's almost "quadrant" related (e.g. DEL and P, or A and Q) but it doesn't make any sense! Either way, messed around on my own for a bit, called tech support, they had me pull out the battery and plug it in, no change. Told me to box everything back up and ship it back.

Oh well - hopefully we'll have a replacement here tomorrow morning. Just thought I'd post up about it in case anybody else has run across this. For what it's worth, it came from Verizon with v4.0.0.204 already installed.

I've had the 7250 with Verizon service for about a month now & haven't had one issue with the device.
Sounds like you just got a bad one, & trust me that you'll forget all about it when Verizon sends you a replacement & you get to play with the 7250 for a bit...

Just a quick FYI - They sent us a brand new unit overnight, and it's worked flawlessly out of the box. I fully understand that units arrive DOA all the time for computers, phones, dishwashers, cars, TV's, etc. so I'm totally fine with it. Just surprised!

But the user loves the phone and I am so jealous as to how much faster it is over my 7750!

I got my BB 7250 the day it came out on Feb. 11, 2005. I am amazed at the build quality of the handheld. Coming from the cheaply built Palm Tungsten E, the BB 7250 is a welcome surprise.

However like everything, there are some bad units. It's good to hear that Verizon Wireless did not give you a major hassle trying to return the dead unit.

These days you never know how customer service will treat you!

When it comes to replacing units that our users kill (which I seem to end up doing about 3-4x a month), Verizon is hands-down the best to work with. We always get our replacement the next day, and dealing with their CSRs has always been a piece-of-cake.
