Hello,

I recently got given a 7130v as a second hand phone from a friend. It's in very good condition. It was Vodaphone, but has been unlocked and I am using an Orange SIM currently.

When I first received the phone, I couldn't get anything internet related to work, there was a message at the top saying something along the lines of 'data connection failed', I can't quite remember, but the message was always present.

I accepted that I'd simply have to use it as a normal phone, but recently it spontaneously turned itself off and came up with the error "OS Extended Verify failed" with the option to reset. Upon reset the same error comes up, so I can literally do nothing. I think one or twice the handset tried to load up, but then fell into a JVM error (sadly I didn't note the number and it hasn't appeared since then).

I tried plugging it into my PC and using a technique described elsewhere using JL_Cmder to wipe the phone, however when I enter 'blackberry' to actually wipe it, the next screen flickers and then I'm taken back to the main menu. I assume that this is because my computer can't see the blackberry device. It realises there is a device, but Desktop Manager says it is disconnected.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd be very grateful. It's really frustrating not having any access to my phone.

This is a very old device, and despite a perfect outer condition, it is failing. It is time to replace the device.

Are you saying there is no way for this to be fixed even to some extent?

Getting another phone isn't an option for me. I accidentally took my last phone in the sea, which is why I've been given this handset. I currently don't have the money to spare to buy a new phone and I see no reason why this would work fine for a few weeks and then just not even turn on properly.

If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

That's what I'm saying. Electronic devices have finite lifespans.

As dc/dc stated, this is an old device. However, you may be able to save it. Download the OS for your device and install it to your PC.

You could follow these steps:

If it still doesn't detect your device, then follow these steps.

I got passed the first stage of the phone re-install, and this message came up:

"Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation."

Now it's just connecting and disconnecting from my computer when the red light flashes on and off.

Make sure you're connected to a USB port on the back of the PC, not a USB hub. Try rebooting the PC and the device and then trying again.

OK, I had it through a USB extension lead from the back of my computer. Would that make a difference?

It's possible that the device wasn't getting enough power, thus causing the error. Try it without the extension cable.

Nope, annoyingly the same thing has happened again. It just seems a little strange to me that something that is able to display specific errors could be so incapable of starting it's OS, even with help from a real computer.

This has definitely put me off ever getting a Blackberry of my own.
