I searched to see if anyone else is having this issue, and all I found is people complaining that they were seeing everything EXCEPT the most recent text, and that a firmware upgrade fixed it.

I'm on OS6.0.0.337, which is the latest available from my provider (Telstra).

Here's a more complete description of the problem:
If I receive a text from someone, then they send me a second one, if I open either the Messages or the Text Messages app, I only see the most recent one in the list of messages.

If I open that message, I see the previous one as well, as you'd expect.

I.e. It's receiving it ok, but it's hiding it from the list.

Can anyone please tell me if this is normal behaviour? If so, I can't see that it's useful. In fact, I'd say it could lead to dangerous mistakes.

And before anyone asks, yes, I am referring to a problem on a Torch 9800. I'm not updating my profile yet, I only have this phone for a short while as a trial.

Mine too. Perhaps as a way of streamlining the process. There is that character limit that splits long messages up.

I think this is a very dangerous feature/bug. If someone sends me several texts in a row, and I only realise the last one is there, it might be such a short one that I don't think I need to open it to read it, and therefore I won't see the others.

I've just been told that this was introduced in OS5, and that "all the phones are going that way now". If that's true then I guess there's no point trying to report it as a bug. Dumb idea, if you ask me. I can see the value if someone regularly receives a lot of texts from a lot of people, but it ought to be possible to turn it off, and shouldn't be the default.

Do you get different results by changing the Combine Sequential Messages Messages settings under Options? I don't have this issue with .450.

You mean "Group consective messages"? It was unticked, and I see no difference in the behaviour when I tick it.

But never mind, I've since been told that this is normal behaviour since OS5.

I just read your original post again and now understand what you are explaining - you are wanting to see a separate entry in the initial (or inbox) view for each text message even when it's from the same person (as you would for email messages). I don't know of a way to change that although it hasn't been an issue for me.

I get an alert for each message so I know there are multiple messages, even if only one is displayed. I also get a message count in the notification bar. Not really seeing an issue with it, but then my text messages tend to be <censored> trying to drum up business, so no big deal.

In normal use you would tend to know what's going on, so no big deal as you say. It becomes an issue if you leave the phone unattended for a while. I could receive several messages overnight while the phone is turned off. I wouldn't notice if the number of unread messages changed because it's always pretty high.

I'm on OS 6.0.0.337 too, and I have been upgrading and downgrading back to 6.0.0.337, so far from being Blackberry addict, I found this OS is the most stable OS among the rest, and I have been upgrading to latest OS for the Torch, but unfortunately, The latest OS are missing things like some characters that the whole OS doesn't recognize and instead it gives you a small square. can did any one encounter the same.

I was having this problem as well - Blackberry site unhelpful - went to old standby and took the battery out and this seems to have resolved the problem.
