Text Messaging with 7100i
Please Login to Remove!
Anyone know if it is possible to text message with the 7100i. I just bought it and tried sending a mms and get a message "no mms service record, message cannot be sent. You will only be able to Save Draft."
Any help will be appreciated,
Jason

Go to this link to set up your email services:
https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=nextel
Once you do that, your data will kick in, along with MMS messaging.

I think text and MMS messaging is sometimes a problem with Nextel depending which plan you're using.

The 7100i can only send MMS messages. You need to add the package to your device.

SMS and MMS messaging does not require or have anything to do with a Blackberry data plan. They are completely dependent on Nextel and the voice plan that you have.

Check your BB's Service Books. Go to Options/Advanced Options/Service Books and check for MMS Client and Nextel MMM Transport Service Book entries. Chances are, you don't have these yet and cannot send because of that.
One step to try is to go to Options/Advanced Options/Host Routing Table, click on the trackwheel and choose "Register Now". If you have a Blackberry data plan for your device, then the service book entries should appear once that step is complete. Recheck your service book entries to see if they did appear.
If so, try sending out an MMS text message again. If not, contact your carrier's Blackberry Help Desk Support Line for further assistance.
Hope this helps.

I "text" all the time on mine... MMS messaging on the phone. as far as the phone goes, its the easiest phone I've ever used for texts... obviously. the problem is with Nextel's MMS service, it sucks. Always has. From what I understand, they use their own texting service (perhaps someone can jump in here...) you send a text, the recipient may get it immediately, they may get it 6hrs later, they may not get it at all. Good luck.

IIRC text/mms is different from data. even with a data plan, i was charged like a dime for each text I sent in addition to my data plan. i do agree with the last post, the text/mms service with nextel is a gamble. I've received messages from others like a week after they sent it to me

If you have the Blackberry e-mail and web, it comes with the 100 MMS text messages a month. Without that plan you're not going to be doing much of anything. From that message you're receiving, that tells me you either don't have the plan, or your service books are corrupted. You can send them to yourself, or tech support can do it.

Nextel support folks, can you give us the "correct" IT Policy recipe for allowing Nextel MMS to work in a BlackBerry ENTERPRISE Server environment?
We have IT Policies in place and most of our Nextel BlackBerrys will not get the "Nextel MMS Transport [WPTCP]" service book. The service book shows up as Record Type: Disallowed. The "MMS Client [MMS]" service book is in place and Record Type: Active.
The same exact IT Policy works fine on 7100-series BlackBerrys on T-Mobile and Cingular.
And to echo others, MMS on Nextel has proven to be nearly useless when it does work at all...delivery times range between many hours later and never. Highly unreliable.

We am our IT people
It's always been way too much fun trying to get all the right service books to show up with Nextel, and I've done the full dance with Nextel support to no avail. Results are always "sometimes it works", after enough hard reboots, repushes of Policy, and luck.
It would be nice if there was a statement of all the settings required for MMS to work on the Nextel units. As it stands now, these are the two IT Policy settings we change. These settings allow SMS/MMS to work just fine on other carrier's 7100s:
Device Only -> Allow SMS -> TRUE
Common -> Disable MMS -> FALSE
Device-Only -> Enable WAP Config -> TRUE
Edit: (KB-05406 notes that since SMS goes out over WAP, this setting has to be on for SMS to work. It is TRUE by default)
Service Exclusivity -> Allow other Message Services doesn't seem to tie into SMS/MMS.

I've never had an issue with texting on my NEXTEL blackberry. We have a system that provissions you correctly for text messaging. That could be the issue. Then again, like all carriers, we can't guarentee timeliness with text messages to and from other carriers. I'm also on a BES through Nextel and never have an issue with getting the MMS Service Book. Perhaps you should contact Data Support with your Bes Admin.

Have you:
1. Added MMS messaging plans to the devices
2. Made certain there isn't an MMS block on the devices

I have the plan that allows 100 MMS messages, but I'm getting billed for SMS. How do I ensure that when I GET a message that it's an MMS vs. an SMS message. Is it the difference between and ?
Thanks, new to the forum (and blackberrys)
