I know cingular was going to update there bis about 3 weeks ago but it never happened. when will this happen? also you blackberry email should change from mycingular.blackberry.net to myatt.blackberry.net. just wondering when this will happen?

There is a thread about this the Blackberry Network section. A member claimed they were making the switch on Mothers day.....it did not happen. So in short, who the heck knows?!!

I don't believe that any of the carriers have announced the new BIS.

If people didn't really want instant delivery of e-mail, no one would use BES....

Nobody needs anything besides food, shelter, and clothing and actually you don't actually need the last two either. I want a Blackberry that gives me my email right away and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. But the more important thing that is supposed to come with BIS is reconciliation between the Blackberry and a Gmail account. I believe this means that the staus of you inbox will be more or less synced with the Blackberry. Obviously you cant have every email in your inbox on the Blackberry but it would be really nice if I didn't have to keep marking messages as read in Gmail after I already read it on my Blackberry.

I do not use 2.0 now- I run my e-mail thru Gmail for instant e-mail with BIS 1.8. I was trying to say that I do not want to lose this functionality by upgrading to 2.3. They are not taking anything away - obviously.

On instant e-mail:

I think it is a "need" for many (like me) because in the business they are in things need to be e-mailed back and forth without the lag of a 15 minute polling slowing it down. I will rattle off 5 e-mails between myself and someone I work with in a 5 minute span if something is hot right then. In that case I think I do "need" it. That is how my business is sometimes.

And you call yourself a blackberry user...

Many people need email instantly. That is the whole point of a blackberry. As soon as someone sends an email you have it on your phone. When you are emailing someone back and forth you most certainly don't want a 15-20 lag waiting on the bb to sync.

But I don't need it the second after the sent button was hit. I have my own business too - sales consulting - and I must admit, I really do not need it that quickly. Maybe I am from the old school, but if some one needs to reach me that quickly, they have my numbers and can call.

5 years ago we couldn't live with out a fax. Now its email. Five years from now what will it be ?

That was my point...YOU don't need it, some people do. If I want a sale and can e-mail a forwarded purchase order to a manufacturer to see if we can fill a truck for delivery I want to do that as fast as possible so I answer my customer NOW. That keeps the order with me and away from the competitor who did not call the guy back with an answer.

For me it is just about quick service and answers. It is not every day but it is there when I need it. Sometimes it is back and forth with my wife from a Tee -ball game about dinner plans or whatever.

To each his own and I "need" instant delivery. If I never had it I would not need it, that is what has happenmed in the last 5 years.

Customers tend to appreciate speed. I sell things online frequently and when there are a few minutes left on my auction questions come pouring in and i usually don't have 15 minutes to waste between responses. Also you have time to get the answer to a question through email whereas a customer will not want to hold on the phone while you find an answer to his question. So I take back what I said before about a Blackberry being a want. If your business involves dealing with people over the internet or over a large distance instant push is a necessity.
