happened to me today. i almost panicked but i can confirm it's fixed.

you guys have to be noticing the crappy ringer volume now? it's super low. i'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. i can't or can hardly hear my email or sms on high when i'm sitting with the phone three inches from me with music on at my computer.

There was a post on here or another forum where someone that works for VZW got an internal memo that depicted a list of what was changed/fixed in the update. I'm not going to go searching for it.

Do you actually have the SMS and email sounds turned on. By default they are all turned to mute? Just checking...

Thanks for confirming this fix. That alone is enough for me to install the upgrade.

My ringers are low now, too. Annoyingly low.

I lost all my calender cause i did the upgrade without doing the calender patch first . so for any of you that didn't do the calendar patch yet do so first before the upgrae OS. Cause i lost all mine and the back up didn't even back up my calender before that.

Gee John, I thought you knew everything already and that there's nothing I know that could contribute to your knowledge.

fixes for the following known issues:

• GSM to CDMA Reconnect
• Call Collision
• System Determination (GSM Mode)
• Calendar Sync Issues
• Ringer Volume
• Unlocked SIM Functionality - The device can now be unlocked to support the use of
non-VZW SIMs for voice and data service on GSM/GPRS networks.
Important Note: Customers using third-party SIMs are not supported by VZW while
roaming on GSM/GPRS networks.
• Added Stereo Bluetooth Support - Device now supports A2DP and AVRCP
Bluetooth profiles which adds compatibility with stereo Bluetooth headsets
• Keypad Backlighting
• CDMA Radio Fixes

Happy now?

You made it sound as if there was an official change log or release notes published. That's why I asked for a link.

Exclamation Avoid "8830EFS_PBr4.2.2_rel271_PL3.0.0.67_A4.2.2.148 .exe "

This update wrecked my original 8830 at the very last step as it did for some others.

Long story short - Verizon shipped me another 8830 and I stupidly sync'd. Then I had 2 dead 8830s. Thankfully Verizon came to rescue with a 3rd 8830 - I'm leaving it AS IS.

User error. People even panic when they see a Java error in the middle of the screen and what's worse is they take the phone in and a VZW tech doesn't even know how to fix that. Now that's pathetic.

I actually had the Call Collision issue this week. Glad to see its fixed.

Also, quick questions. OK, so it's unlocked. So what?

My ringer volumes are WAY higher today than they were ever before. And I don't know what changed. I did the update earlier this week and they were really low after. Today they're LOUD. I don't know what I did. I updated Google Maps, listened to some music, did a battery pull to fix the voice mail speed dial...nothing out of the ordinary. But they're LOUD now.

Not complaining, though.

after installing the new 8830 software woud it be safe to uninstall the calendar 2007 patch that I had installed previously, since this new release addresses that bug, or is it a non issue and better to just leave it there?

I am traveling in Europe and have been roaming on several carriers. Does that mean I am unlocked?

No. On the gsm networks, the phone shows the carrier you are currently using. I am on vodaphone IT right now but was on I TIM earlier in the day.

If I put one of my local prepaid sims in the phone it says invalid sim. On my other "unlocked" phone it works fine.

Just wondering anybody know what the update is? Or is it just the calendar patch??
I downloaded the update because I needed the calendar patch. It took forever, but my calendar is working just fine now.....

Can someone help me out. A friend just got his 8830 yesterday and I got mine on release day. I ran the update.

Mine shows:
4.2.2.148 (platform 3.0.0.67)
His shows:
4.2.66 (platform 3.0.0.45)

Did the update on mine go through? If so, why is his version higher (4.2.66 is higher then 4.2.2.148) but my platform higher.

So confused, any help would be great.

Thanks,
Erik

I'm guessing his actually shows 4.2.2.66 not 4.2.66. Yours is up to date.
