As I recall, you can only download and install appliations with the blackberry browser (for which you need a blackberry data plan). It can't be done with opera mini. Unless something has changed. --- Don't trust me, though, do a search to confirm.

I think only if he has the service books.
I don't get involved when people don't have a BlackBerry Data Plan...

I see. I've not been without a data plan so don't have the experience. I think I downloaded with the wifi browser when I first got my 8820, just playing around, but I have a data plan.

Unfortunately, many of the new members in the last several months do not have BlackBerry data plans. It is an epidemic. Like NJ, I refuse to support people that don't have plans.

I don't see the point of a blackberry without a data plan, but different strokes. Just want to help.

I date the increase in users without data plans to the release of the pearl. That was also the start of the mass influx of new members who had absolutley no idea what they had just purchased, which continues.

what'sthe point of having a blackberry if you're not going to use the blackberry data plan?

I've downloaded over wifi, however, i doubt that can be done without again, having a bb data plan.

I refuse to give my support to anyone who has a bb, and no bb data plan.

Plenty of good honest people like the blackberry and don't use a data plan. Some may have no choice. One of our illustrious members was in that spot one time and there's a long thread on what you can/can't do as a re**** of his experience. If a member is honestly trying to get the max use out of the machine and they are not stealing, then more power to them.

If it makes any diff I turn off the wireless (att carrier) and use the wifi only when I'm at home and can download just fine. I only turn off the wireless because I have horrible 3g coverage at home and don't want to drain battery. Then again I am on a BES and have unlimited data, however I'm of the understanding since I turn off wireless (NOT wifi mind you) and use the wifi exclusively I am not using the data plan from the carrier. If the service books from the carrier have any bearing on wifi I don't know.

Service Books play a huge part.
