Default Calendar entries are deleted automatically

Please Login to Remove!

One of our users is complaining about Calender entries being deleted automatically resulting in missed meetings.

I cheched the MAGT logfile & I can see the following :

[40212] (08/30 02:39:07):{0x13AC} {CN=John Doe/OU=XXX/O=YYY} OTAC reconcile deleting calendar record 68343E347CA6FA55C12571D500229384 (ref -1895008584) (open error 0x4404) for user CN=John Doe/OU=XXX/O=YYY

Can someone tell me what is happening & what is causing the problem?

Thx

what version of exhange and blackberry and cdo.dll version. There are 100s of reasons why appointments are deleted. Also what is the version of the outlook client and service packs.

We have a similar issue with just a handful of users, all upper execs, as luck would have it. The invitation never shows in the Inbox or Messages folder, but after about 20 min. shows up on the Outlook and Blackberry calendar as tentative, before disappearing a little later on.

We're running Exchange 2003, SP2, with the CDO.dll versions 6.5.7638.2 and mapi32.dll versions 6.5.7638.2 matching between the Exchange server and BES.

The handhelds are 8700c w/ v4.1.0.194 OS

Our BES is currently 4.0.4.5. The concerned users' clients are Outlook 2003 SP1.

Most perplexing. Any help would be much appreciated

It is strange that the appointment appears as tentative. For an appointment to appear as tentative the outlook sniffer would need to see the appointment in the inbox. So this would tell me that the appointment does arrive in the inbox.

I take it the execs have "send meeting responses to the delegates not to me" selected ?

Are the delegates accepting meeting requests on behalf of the users ?

If you remove the user from the bes server does the calendar function properley ?

I have seen this in the past, If a delegate goes into the users calendar and right clicks the appointment and accepts the appointment, the original meeting request is still in the users inbox. If the user then clears down the inbox the appointment is deleted.

I would set the following reg key on each delegates registry.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\O utlook\Options\General\DelegateWastebasketStyle DWORD to value 4.
If you set this key you also need to make sure that delegate also has author access to the execs deleted items folder. see hotfix KB202517

Setting this key means if a delegate accepts execs meeting request the accepted meeting request goes into the execs deleted items not the delegates deleted items folder. When the blackberry sees the accepted meeting request in the deleted items folder it process it correctly.

Also I would install outlook 2003 SP2 this contains fixes for missing calendar appointments to with outlook caching.

I would also update CDO.DLL to the latest version on both exchange and bes. There have been lots of post SP2 Exhange CDO hotfixes been released that fix problems with missing calendar appointment.

the last 2 lines are links to microsoft CDO fixes kb9130993 and 911928.

A recurring meeting is not removed from an Outlook 2003 userxxx226;xxx8364;xxx8482;s calendar when the meeting is created by using CDO in Exchange Server 2003
An appointment does not appear on the attendee's calendar when you use a CDO 1.21 program to process the appointment in Exchange Server 2003

Thanks a lot for the quick response. You've provided lots of good information and hope. I'm sort of middleman for the Exchange Admin that got saddled with this problem. He asked me to check out the Blackberry angle, so I don't yet have the answers to all of your questions, but have passed your guidance on.

I've already have just received a response that this has already fixed up one problem user, so again thanks!

Unfortunately, the execs involved haven't been real thrilled about having their BES accounts removed/recreated, but the brighter side is that your Exchange info, (which I'm not strong on) is helping a bunch.

If you're ever in NC, the beer will flow like wine (or some better metaphor : )

In our case it happens with Lotus Notes Server software iso Outlook. It is not yet solved by RIM but we have a workaround. When we reboot the Notes server, we afterwards have to reboot the BES server as well. This workaround works but it is still a workaround ...

Default One year later - same errors

We are using Notes/Domino (7.0.2 FP2) and BES (4.1.4.17) -> current releases. We have the same data loss in the BlackBerry Device calendar, and same errors in BES "MAGT"-Logs. Rebooting server (incl. OS) didn´t help, just opened an incident to RIM with severity "HIGH".

I think I'm having the same problems:

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE:
* BlackBerry Pearl 8100
* Microsoft Outlook 2003 (no BES - using Web Client instead)
* BlackBerry Desktop Manager v 4.2.2.14 (Apr 26, 2007)
* Rogers Wireless (Canada) service

SYMPTOMS
* original sync w/ Outlook using Desktop Manager (USB) - no problem, all 2500+ calendar entries are common to both device and Outlook

* within 24 hours (whether or not another sync operation is performed), 2000-ish calendar entries are deleted automagically from the BlackBerry device

* always roughly the same number of deleted calendar entries (i.e. ~2000)

* does not affect Tasks, Address Book (Contacts) or Notes which are sync'd the same way

* re-sync'ing between Outlook and device causes Desktop Manager to try and DELETE all 2000-ish messages from OUTLOOK; but, performing a "Resync" correctly adds them back to the BlackBerry device

TROUBLESHOOTING SO FAR (NOTHING HAS WORKED):
* wiped handheld
* reinstalled Desktop Manager and device software
* disabled the "Wireless Reconcile" feature
* swapped out device hardware (for refurbished model)

----------

Aaarrrrgghhhhh!!! This is driving me crazy! If anyone has a similar issue and has found a resolution, please lemme know.

Cheers,
Jeremy

We solved customers problem. A badly implemented cluster server caused the deletions (inconsistent mail replicas).

cybermike, I bet the mail cluster servers were not configured in a dedicated private LAN as per IBM Lotus recommendation and as such replications are not "real-time". Might you share whats going on with that "badly implemented" cluster?

Having the same problem with one user. All entries of the past vanished, except the ones before a week.

Lotus Domino 7 / BES 4.1.4.17 (latest release) on same server.
Mail file is clustered. No cluster replication problems...

Replication occures only in one direction, mail databases on server2 only had 10% of documents from server1. So problem only exists because of inconsistent mail databases.

What version of cdo.dll are you using on your Exchange and Blackberry server? There is a known issue with certain versions of cdo.dll that cause this; however after updating this cdo.dll you will need to be at the latest BES 4.14 Maintenance Release because this will fix another issue that will result from the cdo.dll which is duplicate appts.
