If you want to be even more precise, I would bet that I am part of a very large majority of BB users. Sorry you're having some very annoying problems with yours. It doesn't make sense.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the first one was bad HW, and BBerry should have had me replace it long ago. My remaining problem may be more common but less visible. My understanding is that a lot of BB users leave their units on 24/7, and even for those who don't, I think mine is related to the fact that the cellular service inside my home is iffy, maybe it turns on, decides it can't make a good connection, and shuts down for a while. I don't know. Anyway, other than this nagging problem I love my BB too, and the refurb seems to have fixed the most annoying powerup-related problems

I would guess that most leave the device on 24/7 except for the occasional battery pull. I have to be certain to set the profile to Quiet in the evening or somebody is going to get very angry about the email alerts sounding off in the bedroom -- and no, that someone is not me!

I leave mine on 24/7 in a cradle beside the bed. I set a night time profile so just important people get through

Oh well. It took a week, but I turned on my replacement unit today and the Mobile Network was mysteriously off. Just like my old one used to.

So we've tried new SW. Tried new HW, and the problem is still there. What does this mean:

1) Most people don't turn their BB off at night, so perhaps I have a behavior that the folks at BB don't test for.

2) My coverage is low at my house (sometimes reads only 5%), that could be part of the problem. Maybe if strength is too low as it shuts off it turns off mobile network.

3) Perhaps it ALWAYS turns off mobile network when you turn it off, and the problem is that sometimes, on my unit, it doesn't turn the mobile network back on?

4) The problem is where the SW interacts with an analog interface (that controls/senses power on/ off). It's not surprising that the SW doesn't deal with all the possibilities involved.

Bottom line: BB is a nice gadget, but it still has a bit of a ways to go, and, to some degree, is subject to the same frailties that affect all SW-driven devices (including PCs).

I'll live with it, as once everything's "on" the unit works great (maybe I'll just CAP-ALT-DEL every morning). .

Nope, the BB isn't perfect. It just isn't working out for you. I believe that most of the problems are related to poor network coverage.

Low expectations, you might get what you expect.

If I had to guess I'd say that your network coverage is the issue. It would be interesting to see what happens if you take it along on a trip and you're staying somewhere with a strong signal.

agreed - unfortunately i rarely travel. However, I can certainly try power-cycling it for a number of days when I'm in a high-strength area and see if I can get a single failure...

my cousin had the same problem with her bb, turns out it WAS poor network coverage, because the minute she entered my house, her bars were full. no signal drop, nothing. so try doing what the others have suggested, it might just be shoddy network coverage!

I have that problem at work (Of I work in a large concrete box).. My BB is constantly searching for a signal.. Since data still flows threw I don't turn off my radio.. Although it probably would save my battery.. But when I leave work all is well

My device only turns the antenna off when my battery hits 5%.. which is about 4 p.m. unless charged.
