Default Desktop Manager wont detect 8100 in Parallels?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Everyone

I am currently running OSX and a version of Parallels, however when I install desktop manager on XP, it will not detect my 8100 Pearl no matter what I do.

Has anyone else had this issue or anyone know how to resolve it?

Thanks a lot

I think I had the same problem where my Pearl would mount onto the desktop of OSX before being discovered in XP.
This is actually a feature of Parallels where under the USB preferences you can select if a USB device is used in XP automatically.
You can also mount the device as you need it by clicking on the USB icon at the bottom of the Parallels window and selecting the RIM device. This will then be detected by XP and Desktop Manager will find it straight away.
I hope I make sense...!

Now that you say that it makes perfect sense. I had to do this when I first used my external USB drive that way as well. I will try doing this and see if it works. Thanks.

also just making sure but did oyu remove those two blackberry files from your library folder? i know oyu have to remove those files in order for parallels to detect the blackberry. if those files are still in there the osx will be recognizing the blackberry, not parallels.

Default Same problem

Hey Mrbrut,

Would you mind providing a bit more detail as to how you overcame this problem? It's been driving me nuts - I just switched from an 8700 to a Pearl, and XP would pick up the 8700 just find when running on Parallels - but the Pearl won't come up. I get an error message that another application is accessing it (which I think is OSX mounting it first). I'm not sure how to do either of the fixes you suggest below, so I would really appreciate any further guidance.

cheers,

All I did was download the latest beta version of Parallels. When Parallels is running, I plug in my BB. OSX will mount it - but don't worry, just unmount it. Then go to the menu bar under Parallels and it will allow you to switch the USB device (in this case the BB) to XP. Sometimes it is flakey and you have to do it a few times, because you get that message about not enough power...

Here's another solution if you don't mind switching to Fusion....works like a charm!

Default Fusion

I agree about Fusion. I tried all of the suggestions on Parallel's and Blackberry forums to get my BB to synch with Parallels. Finally I found the perfect solution and it worked immediately - dump Parallels, load FUSION as your VM program and everything works without any fancy tricks or computer expertise. It's also a much better program all around and it's free. What a shame that this annoying problem couldn't be fixed by Parallels after so many months of complaining by its customers
