Cool bbCorrector - Free Spell Checking powered by Google

Please Login to Remove!

My site is no longer available (or required). Please upgrade to the latest bbCorrector client.

I have written a new server for bbCorrector. (open source free spell checking)

Spelling Results are provided by Google (same results provided by the Google Toolbar) which also enabled me to provide spelling in 11 languages.

Also written in support for custom dictionaries.

If you are already using bbCorrector you do not need to reinstall it, simply point it to the new server URL (either HTTP, or the HTTPS proxy) to begin taking advantage of the better spelling results provided by Google. To take advantage of other features create a free account to change your language settings and edit your custom dictionary.

Complete directions at: http://bb.nexstanza.com/

Let me know how it goes!

I didn't write or modify the bbCorrector client, I may not be able to help with certain client issues.

[UPDATE] tateu has written an update to the bbCorrector client so it works directly with Google or existing bbCorrector Servers. It also now supports custom dictionaries and language options directly from the handheld.

Sigh, dumb question - I've installed BBCorrector in the past, but for some reason I really can't tell if it's working or not. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Also, this looks great!

Arg, the option doesn't show up. Is there a FAQ or some such around here I can take a gander at?

No Problem logging in and it is faster than the older connection, and it as you say works the same as the old one with the exception that when you choose to accept a choice in the spelling suggestions it goes back and deletes what was prior to it in order to replace the mispelled word for the new one.

The new bbCorrector servers are acting a bit strange with my 7290.

I created a document with these words: "This is a tesst of the tje emergency broadcast system." After I chose Spelling from the menu, both "tesst" and "tje" were underlined, as expected. I used the Spelling Suggestion to select "test" to replace "tesst." The sentence then became: "This itest of the tje emergency broadcast system." bbCorrector is replacing the word, as well as the four previous characters.

Both servers (basic and secure) give the same result.

Seems it works fine with some handhelds and others it does not. I have had this problem with the original server as well. I do not know what would cause this condition to occur on the handheld. I have compared the xmlpacket I send back to the original and they are the same, the only difference being the suggested words. It may have to do with your handheld code version? I am not sure yet.

Update: In my tests, 4.0 worked fine. 4.0.2 and 4.1 had this problem.

Default Regular BBerry corrector - make it work???

I have the regular version someone had sent me that is "supposed" to work - but I can't get it to budge. I get no spell check prompt or bar to select prior to sending an email.

Anyone have any help on getting this - or something - to work as a spell check without having to connect to the net to use it?

Thanx

As i Pointed above and DavidEnglish corroborated that is the problem I am having, the funny thing is that I never had the problem with the original and I switched because I needed the option to spell check in other languages since I have need for that a lot. So i went back to the original figuring that one language working well was better than nothing and when i went and tested it I had the same problem The odd thing was that I never had that happen before. If someone finds a solution I would appreciate a PM on it since now I have neither working right and I would love to use T-Roys option because of the language issue. Thanks one and all.

In this thread tateu fixed this problem by changing the server to UTF8 Decode I am already doing. In testing the results sent from them both appeared the same but I will have to do more investigation. It maybe that Google is providing results in UTF8 even though the string I submitted is ISO-8859-1. This still appears to be a client bug but maybe is correctable by the server. I will look into it some more.

I'm having the problem now with the original server. KonTiki and I are in the same boat.

I have bbspell installed as well as bbcorrector.

When I try to check spelling, bbspell does all the work.
Is there a way to select which application I want to do the checking?
If not, do I have to install them one at a time to do a comparison?

Thanks
