I don't think anyone is slamming Seidio, outside of maybe a poorly packed shipping container, so I guess the real overall question within this thread is ... is this a question about Seidio (since they simply provided the charger that was reviewed) or a question about the charger itself and the company who is actually responsible for its design and production.
IMHO, this is less about Seidio than it is about the charger. Afterall, it's sold with other branding (Amzer) and in many more cases without any branding by the many online accessories vendors. To truly correct the issue, the OEM behind this charger needs to feel the heat and take corrective action.

Thank you very much for the comments. Regardless, Seidio feels responsible for what happened. Even, Seidio did not develop and manufacture this subject cradle, we still feel fully responsible what we carry and sell. We will stand behind fully what we carry and sell.
As to this cradle, we are still working on the same manufacturer to come up a solution. Until we are completely sure the solution is good and can be accepted by BB users, we will not carry this product. Besides this, we are also working on various solutions as always.
Sorry for what happened. please accept our apology.

Hi All,
Just an update on what's going on. We expect to have a product that meets both your and our requirements (as originally advertised) within the next week or two. Anyone who has purchased the cradle and is dissatisfied with it has the option to: return it for a full refund; or, wait until we receive the updated cradle and we'll be happy to swap you straight out. If there is another solution that you would like, please let us know and we'll be happy to work with you. Feel free to email me directly with your comments, desires, paychecks, etc.

Mine should be coming as well. I had them hold up on my order because of the problems. They were great and have kept me informed.

Change of heart... I'm posting this quick note to let people know that I officially retired this cradle today. It worked but I was quite concerned about the stress that the fixed metal hub was putting on the 8700's USB port during insertion and removal. If you want a good cradle, you should perhaps consider Seidio's newer offering reviewed here.
I actually question how long this older cradle will (and should) remain on the market. The new design is better. The new design is also more flexible in allowing for the use of the 8700 with the extended battery and also accomodating the 7130.

I ordered this cradle with great anticipation after reading this review.
What the hell did I just receive?
The cradle looks nothing like the photo in this review.
Furthermore, it comes with no instructions for its use
whatsoever.
I sort of figured it out, by plugging the USB cable into the
USB port on the back of the cradle and then to the USB input
on my computer....
....but nothing happened even though the switch on the cable
was positioned on USB (rather than charger).
My computer did not recognize the Blackberry plugged in. I
could not synch the device, and I don't even know if it the
Blackberry is charging or not.
Furthermore, my Blackberry 8703e does not fit firmly into the
cradle (though its supposed to be designed for the 8700 series).
If I merely pick up the cradle, the phone plops out.
Finally, I have lots of past experience with PDA cradles. Most,
you just plop the PDA in the cradle and it charges and synches to
your computer. Here, you have to sit the Blackberry in a cradle
and plug it in to a rather tight-fitting USB plug.
...and am I to understand that I have to use TWO USB cables
at once to both charge and synch my device? They couldn't do
this with one cable?
I'm going to write the company, as thus far, this thing does not
look good.

I am going to forward your message to our tech support department, but at the very least, you should have received instructions with it. If you will be kind enough to email an phone number where our tech support people can reach you, I will make sure that they call you today. If you would prefer to call them directly, they are available at: 832-204-1114. Please let me know what other assistance you need and I'll be happy to help.

I received this item today and I can confirm that it does not come with instruction. However I think they are not necessary.
I will post back when i actually test it.

Well folks, my replacement USB cradle just arrived and there are
still problems.
The good news is that the cradle does succeed in charging
the Blackberry device.
However....
The moment I move the switch to USB, the computer senses
the connection and comes up with an ERROR that reads: Windows
could not recognize this USB device.
Meanwhile, if I bypass the cradle and hook my Blackberry directly
to my computer's USB port, the computer instantly recognizes the
connection and all is well.
This immediately tells me that the cradle is still a problem.
It also tells me that I'm probably going to ship this whole thing
back for a refund.

Move what switch to USB? You have to switch on your USB ports on your computer? I don't follow.
I have one of these cradles and it works flawlessly. If you're having issues, you're in the minority. However, the Davids will take very good care of you, whether this product suits your needs or not.
Good luck.

No, no. There are two settings on the cradle unit: CHARGER
and USB. You need to switch to USB on the cradle to activate
the USB/SYNCH connection.
I am on the phone with tech support and we found the problem....
I am uncertain if this is a flaw or not....
I can't have the charger (USB TO AC) plugged in at the same time
as I am synching the device.
For some reason, as long as the charging cable is connected
to the cradle, the computer will not recognize the USB connection
for synching the Blackberry device.
The second I plug in the AC cord to the CHARGER plug, the computer
no longer recognizes the cradle.
This is what tech support has told me....
This is a UNIVERSAL cradle.
The switch on the cradle is designed for the 7100T Blackberry series.
I have the 8703e Blackberry
Obviously, this cradle is not guaranteed to work flawlessly with
all models.
In my case, I can recharge my Blackberry in the cradle when the
computer is OFF.
When I want to synch my Blackberry to my computer, I cannot
have the charger cord plugged in.
In a way, it still works out. As long as the Blackberry is connected
via USB (in synch/USB mode) there is still power being supplied to the unit.
I think all is well, but the manner in which the charging and synch
functions are supposed to work together (or separately) have not been
very well explained in the instructions book.
To be fair to SEIDIO, who was very helpful in replacing this unit for
me as well as having very good phone support, I will try this cradle for
a few days and post a follow-up review.

In all fairness to SEIDIO I felt that I should update my comments
on their USB cradle based on their Customer Support and new findings.
First, I have to praise SEIDIO for their Customer Care. I initially
received a defective cradle which the company replaced promptly.
For the times I spent on the phone with Customer Care, I felt that
my call was handled with the utmost concern.
The replacement cradle that I received did indeed work, though
it took me a little time to figure out its initial bugs.
For the most part, the cradle does exactly what it promises --
it recharges and synchs the Blackberry with my computer.
The only problem is, it will not do both at the same time. You
must manually remove the charging cord if you wish to synch.
Additionally, the Blackberry does not fit snug into the cradle.
I would have preffered a little more room in the base for the
Blackberry to sit more securely. As of now if you slightly hit
the cradle with your hand the Blackberry falls out of the cradle.
The main problem here is that as a PDA owner I am perhaps
unfairly comparing this cradle to the more sophisticated kind
that comes with most PDA devices. This is not that kind of
cradle. Still, this SEIDIO model does manage to do the basic
job it was intended for.
