Angry SIM expert needed. 7520 - 7100i

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a 7100i on Ebay, thinking I got a great deal because the seller mislisted it and there wasn't many bidders. He listed it as a "7100i like new conditions" in the descriptions. He didn't say much else. Unfortunately, I got it today without a SIM. I know there is a pretty big size difference between the 7520 and the 7100i, but is there any other reason I shouldn't use my old SIM? How badly will the size difference affect me? Will it cause problems with my applications or the amount of data that I can store?

Thanks

Your SIM is used for your phone number and contact list. I don't see how the 7520 SIM would screw up your 7100i applications. The only thing that MAY be limited in terms of storage would be your contact list, but I have never heard of anyone filling their address book.

To be able to send or receive MMS messages from the 7100i you will most likely need the 64k sim that the 7100i comes with. I have yet to hear of a CS rep that will provision MMS services to a 32k card. If you don't care about the ability to send or receive MMS, then using the 7520's sim won't negatively affect you at all.

the sim on the bb is not used for contacts unless you manually copy them there from the hd. the problems occur because the 7520 is a 32k sim card and the 7100i is a 64k sim card therefore they are not compatible. it may work for a few days but will constantly give you problems.

Huh? The BlackBerry does not use the SIM to store the contact list.

No, it won't constantly give you problems. Other than what I stated in my previous post, the 32k sim will work in the 7100i. Same as a 64k sim will work absolutely fine in the 7520/7510.

The SIM only contains your phone number & numbers you may have put on it with a Non-BB phone, but the address book on a BB is not stored there at all. I can copy SIM phonebook numbers from the SIM to my addressbook on my 8700 but you can't write to the SIM from a BB, so the size doesn't matter.

Your bigger concern would be if the device was locked to a different provider or was on a BES and has a IT policy that might restrict your usage.

How would I know if the phone is locked? I put my 7520 SIM into in and it connected and I was able to make a phone call. However, it said SIM error right below the "Nextel".

Does Nextel have more than 1 64K SIM? Will a SIM from an i830 fit in a 7100i?

Theres nothing special aboyut a BB sim card its only used to carry service thats it nothing more thats why they used a 32k one no reason to slap a bigger one in there

I recomend seeing a service and repair center to see if they have one they can sell you.

Thanks, Dawg. But then why do I get a SIM error if I put my 7520 SIM in the 7100i?

Like Dawg and I have said many times, there is no difference in Nextel sim cards other than the number of contacts that can be stored on it, PERIOD. If your phone is having an issue, make sure the sim is not damaged and works fine in other phones as well. It could also be the contacts on the phone, so try a different sim in the 7100i as well. The sim cards do not have special software or anything like that at all, that is simply not true at all, regardless of phone model. A sim card is a sim card is a sim card.... The i830 sim should work just fine in the 7100i assuming both the phone and the sim card are in working order.

We had a user in our are who upgraded from the 7520 to 7100I. He was instructed to install the SIM in the 7100I. It woudl not work at all. They finally gave up and sent a new 7100I.

Wow, Nsupporter, do I wish I had read your response about 5 hours ago. Customer care told me I could use the 7520 SIM in my new 7100i. WRONG!!! I got the JVM error 545 and had to go to a service center where they sent my phone in. Thankfully I have service on my phone, so it won't cost me and I will get a fixed phone back, but now I am going to be stuch with a 7100i without a SIM still. Does anyone know how to get a 7100i SIM? I guess the people who are able to use the wrong SIM in their phones are the lucky ones...
