Default keyboard problems [water damage]

Please Login to Remove!

I dropped my 8900 in a cup of root beer last night. Wiped down whatever I can, took the battery out, and let dry overnight. In the morning, I was able to turn it on but the keys were not working.

I've washed it with 91% alcohol (just they key part because that's all that got wet) a three times and the blackberry turns on but the keys still do not work. I know I know I shouldn't keep the battery in. Right now it is sitting it a bowl of rice without the battery in.

I guess my question is: If the keys and the side buttons as well as the top buttons were not working when I last tried it, is it fried for good? Or will I possibly be able to revive it after a few days?

Once it is turned on, the damage is pretty much done. Let it sit in the rice for a few days and see what happens... Sorry.

I would have let it sit a few more days and let it all dry out as much as possible..because if there was still moisture inside and u turned it on and something shorted out..then that is permanent damage (unless it was an intermittent short)..good luck though

Try giving it a few days. If it does not work, then it is a problem. Also, i don't the warranty covers wet damage (at least it does not in my country)

Actually I have seen users use it for water damaged device, either the Asurion insurance, or even your homeowners will normally cover electronic devices like this.

When I signed up for the insurance with T-Mobile in the US.. I was told that I could take the phone and run it over with my own car on purpose, come back to the store, tell them what I did (not on purpose of course), and then just pay the deductible ($150 I believe) and I would get another 8900.
But on their website it does state that waterDamage is covered..

I had similar problem, I woke up in the morning, captured my curve 8330, started pressing the scroll key, instead it should go into my email it pressed me the '#', I pressed other buttons but they pressed me something else, for example I pressed the xxx8216;delxxx8217; key and xxx8216;wsxxx8217; was typed on my screen, I took out the battery several time but nothing help, it only got worse, now I wasnxxx8217;t able to press any key, in other words the keyboard died, I searched google, clicked into 100's of blogs to find a solution for that but nothing help.
Finally I decided to try something unique and that helped me, no need to reinstall OS, no need to go to a sprint/Verizon/T-mobile store, just a few small steps that took me about 5-10 minutes, I'll tell you exactly what I did, maybe I didnxxx8217;t need to do every single step.

1. I plugged in my blackberry into my computer,
2. Opened up "Desktop Manager"
3. Clicked on "Backup and Restore"
4. Under the "Backup" options I clicked "Back Up"
5. After the Backup was done, I left the blackberry plugged in for a few more minutes, and THE KEYBOARD STARTED WORKING!!!!

Again maybe just the charging fixed it or maybe the backup fixed it, whatever the case is my blackberry is working now as if nothing happened!!

I doubt a backup fixed it.

Maybe the heat dried it out while charging.
