Because the Telcos do not want it so far. Chating with Google Talk will come in Spring.

VOIP through Mino Wireless
1) Has anyone tried Mino Wireless? They claim to have VOIP software that will run on blackberry.
http://www.minowireless.com
2) If you have BES service, and are on the Cingular Unlimited Plan, what do you think your odds are of racking up extra data charge by using this? Will this run through the BES/MDS service, and therefore not be extra?

paulsully, that looks VERY interesting.
Blackberryless for the next month, but if anyone here tries it please let us know how it goes! I'll be browsing around that website some more, myself.
Here's a review from Handango (but the only one). It was posted last month:
A reviewer from UK and US and sometimes China, 2006-02-09 15:07:25
"hi guys, i downloaded this MINO on my Nokia, and now no matter where I travel within GSM countries, I can make international calls without getting roaming charges and the price si SOOOO cheap! you can call from UK to China for 4 cents usd per minute.. thats amazing.. even calling cards can''t do that. download it and try, they give you 30 minutes free.. also, you can install on other OS, they have ported to rim, j2me, windows, palm..etc. very cool product if you need to call international.. oh.. btw, no more pins or local access numbers like calling cards.. tim"
The catch is that Mino still charges you a per minute rate, though it's far better than using the standard cell rates you would normally have to without it. The benefit of Skype or Google Talk is that it's entirely free to other phones who enable the respective program also.
Hmm.

Woops; I meant the Google Talk as in Google Chat? Wait...
er... whatever the voice program is. I realize Google Talk (the text) is available and configurable for AIM, MSN, etc.

I am totally confused: I have GoogleTalk on my Cingular 8700c. Works perfectly. I also have Blackberry Chat and it works perfectly despite Cingular's heretofore official position that it doesn't work at all. So, I am not sure what I am doing right, or wrong, but the products work on my phone.
Now, if I could only find someone to talk to.

Mino Wireless would be ideal to use when travelling abroad. Pair this up with the Cingular BB Unlimited International Plan, and you also would have a world phone at 2.2 cents per minute, to any land line. Perfect.
It sounds like this would work fine technically, although admittedly will could have some lag/speed problems. Still, this really should function fine normally.
The issue then... this could potentially lead to lots of extra data charges from Cingular. Does anyone know a way around this? For example, if you use a BES with MDS plan, can this data transfer go through the BES/MDS "protocols" and therefore bypass the Cingular data charges? Does this reasoning make any sense?

How do you configure GoogleTalk on the 8700c to work with MSN?

They never said it would not work, they simply said that they would not support it. In other words if you install it and have issues do not come to us cause we dont know or we dont care.

J2ME Skype Client
I read on a blog that there is now a version of Skype available for J2ME phones.
http://darlamack.blogs.com/darlamack...now_avail.html
This, plausibly, would work on a BB for voice chat. Better yet, this could be used internationally to avoid high roaming rates.
Any thoughts? This may not work at all, but I would be interested if someone would try this out!

I am a new BB user of a total of 3 hours. I bought the 8700c from Cingular with unlimited plan. I am having such an issue finding web browser #1 on this damn phone and supposedly it has two of them.... Also I tried downloading googlechat, talk, whatever...... and YAHOO MESSENGER, but none of them download always get an error.... IF I were able to get googlechat does this fall under cinuglar's TEXT message plan? Cause I decided not to do text messages, because if I am paying 45.00 per month for unlimited "DATA" which in my opinion should include text messages, I am not throwing in an additional 10.00 per month when I can send an email......
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks, Will

RIM's version of Google Talk uses DATA, not TEXT. No extra charges on your bill for using this free version of Google Talk.
Make sure Cingular is fully activated first though (email works, web works, and your @blackberry.net email address works, and you have all service books loaded), otherwise it won't work properly. Cingular is problematic in this regards sometimes, but this can typically be fixed.

Looking for Skype
Like other here I have loaded GoogleTalk (chat) which I find useful to figure out who is available online. But since all my company uses Skype, I'm keen to get some form of Skype on my 8700c.
Any direction would be most helpful.
p.s. GoogleLocal (maps) on the 8700 is breathtaking.
