I'm about to go buy one of these 8700s tommorow at the cingular store.... Now not so sure, especially since there are reports of dust still in these units... whats a good test or way to see if this a blackberry that has the proper seal on it, or if its one of the "defective" blackberry's.

Well based on the 2 stores by me, it seems that the 8700 is selling well and they keep runing out of stock. So based on that i would say that by now they only have the new ones.

roosvelt field Cingular owned store the one by macy's on the lower level and the other is in the VallyStream mall. Both are cingular owned stores. If you go to either one, let me know and I will PM you iwht names over there that will take good care of you and insure that all is set up right.

For those that received a replacement from RIM and returned your unit... Did you get a letter from FedEx stating that the account used to return the unit was no good and included an invoice to pay ($59.10 from California to RIM)?

I house mine in the updated oem belt clip. Don't even stress over it though because it is so minimal, like two or three little poeces of dust, besides you don't even notice it till you turn the screen off.

I'm telling all of you, use a shop vac, or one of those vacuums at the car wash. Those things try and pull the seats out of my car

coreyg510,

I was half-joking in my previous post about the Shop-Vac idea. But did you actually try it and did it really work? (I'm being totally serious).

Just a quick follow up...

Apparently the FedEx account number didn't scan properly on the preprinted airbill that RIM used. That generated the invoice. Now that it's been corrected, FedEx is able to bill RIM directly. So...just a minor hiccup.

Default Blackberry vs Sirius S50

I have a stream of dust in my 8700.

I dropped my Sirius S50 in the pool.... It was 4 ft under for two minutes...
works perfect!

I had dust on my original unit after 18 days and returned it to the Cingular store. I then had dust under my second unit and was able to swap it out with RIM. The THIRD unit I had also had the dust issue (and a very loose keyboard) and it too was replaced by RIM. I'm now on my FOURTH unit and, unfortunately, am not too hopeful.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

Damn...dust in the screen, I read some thread abt removing the case to remove the dust, is it ok, to remove it by myself?? Will it be any "side-effect"??
