I'm leaving my current company in a few weeks and am planning on taking my 7130e with me. What do I need to do to break clear of my work BES?

I would prefer not to have to go to my systems guys in case they ask for my BB back (which the company reimbursed me for).

Hmmm, let me see if I (an IT guy) have this right:

• You bought a 7130e
• Submitted an expense report for it (it is work related, I suppose?)
• Were reimbursed the cost of the device (what about service?)

and now you want to know how to ween the device (that you don't have a legal claim to) from the company (who 'bought' the device from you) BES server, so you can take (read 'swipe') it and keep it for personal use?

Is that about right?

Not to mention that if there is a corporate IT policy on the BlackBerry that the company reimbursed him for, that won't remove the IT Policy.

Do the right thing and give the BB to the company that owns it.

You could always ban the curmudgeon from the forum, but I've always found it better to keep my side of the street clean, and let my example speak to the lost.

Besides, I don't think that ripping off your employer leads to bigger crimes. More often it leads to the unemployment lines.

If you are leaving the company in good terms, the right way is to discuss with your manager if they will throw in the BB as part of the departing package.

However, in bigger companies, it is not worth the effort due to paperwork (red tape), even if your manager approves it. What is a used BB worth? In many areas, if you subscribe to a voice AND Blackberry plan, resellers will give you a huge discount on the unit.

What everyone else says here and also keep in mind that your current employer will one day figure out, through inventory audits, that you stole the device and they can place charges against you. It's not worth it. Ask to keep the device, if they say yes, ask them to remove the IT policies. If they say no, the say thanks for considering.

I live by the golden rule of treating others as you wish to be treated. It's something to think about.

All right, All right. My conscience is getting the best of me. I'll be trying to negotiate a "buy out" of the unit and take it with me.

Whoop. You now I was about to post that I don't think the person taking the BB ever said it belonged to the company. My BB is mine; I'll take it wherever I go cos I agreed to pay for a device I like rather than be given one I don't (Treo).

The people I work for use treos on Verizon i wanted a blackberry, and already had Cingular. They reimburse me up to there monthly cost of the Treo on Verizion, I paid for my device (my original device). I carry a prepaid verizion phone when I'm supposed to, so that we get m2m with each other. I rarely use the Verizion prepaid to call people outside of the company, so the prepaid was a cheaper option instead of a full rate plan, or tacking me onto the group minutes.
