Default Yeah, so I bought a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop..................................

Please Login to Remove!

I figured with the most recent OS upgrade to the BB 7520, I would give bluetooth connectivity with my laptop a try.

I bought a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop and installed the software. It finds my Blackberry, and my Blackberry finds my laptop. It scans my Blackberry for available services and finds a "Voice Gateway", however it won't connect to it.

I look on my BB and find that my laptop is listed there, and I viewed the properties, and the properties say "Bluetooth Serial port". I tried to add that on the software, and it says that my phone doesn't support it... Odd huh?

Anyway - I am just seeing if I had more luck then anyone else did previously with the older OS.

That's why Handspring made the Treo stylus with a reset tool that you could use, instead of using a paper clip.

Hmmm...unbeatable email device with a stable OS, a great phone (IMO), superb PIM functions, and a great keyboard.

Or......

The ability to transfer your data without having to reach for a wire......

Tough one that

While I know security is an issue, RIM should really try to impliment this while maintaining security. I am quite certain this can be achieved, AND it really should be looked into.

I dont see why RIM has to do this for you, there are other options out there. That is the beauty of choice in the world. If security is not an issue enjoy a Treo or a PPC.

I don't go for the whole 'If you like security, then you don't want Bluetooth wireless data transfer'. I am quite capable of understanding the risks involved with Bluetooth transfer, and I completely understand how to protect myself. I don't like the idea of BB saying NO, because you may get hacked. What next? Will HP - IBM - DELL not allow networking any more because your PC may be hacked?

The answer to this is very simple. Put the wireless ability in place, put security in place, and DEFAULT IT to the ON setting (the security). If you disable it, that is your fault.

Don't punish me because of moronic users.

Because the majority of RIMs main contracts are the Government and large corporation they are going to give them what they need not the general user. So you arent being punished by moronic users you are being swept under the table by the corporate world and government they are the ones who decide whats on these things not the little man so wemight as well live with it or buy a treo

I think the BBs feature set is also decided upon by the carrier who sell the thing. Verizon certainly doesn't care about all the great features that Bluetooth has too offer.

I understand this. As a solution off of the top of my newbie head, here is what I would suggest.

Governments and Large corporations don't want Bluetooth compatibility with Laptops/PC's? Fine! Put an option in the BES server policies that allow the admins to DISABLE such a feature. This would be a policy in all of their RIM's, while allowing us general users to use the functionality if we so choose.

It doesn't take a lot of imagination to make everyone happy in this particular instance. I just wish RIM would see that.

I too am a little frustrated by the lack of BT data transfer support. I like my BB7290 and think it is elegantly simple, but I long for a few of the features I enjoyed from my iPAQ.

What I am actually surprised about is that no one has figured out how to hack the process to emulate a serial connection. With all of this hacking of PSP's and iPods and such, I would think this would be up there on the list.

Oh well...

Here's something for all you friggin whiners... *nothing* RIM has done limits you from using data transfer to and from your blackberry (ok.. there may be a few little things). I recently wrote a program, that stores some data in persistent storage on the blackberry, I opened up a BT serial connection and made a connection to my laptop. I can now update the information on my blackberry from the stored information on the computer I have.

If I can convince the company I wrote this for to let me share some of the source code, I will make it available here, if not, I will spin up something simular later when I have some time and post it here.

So to make a long story short, you can do it, it's just that nobody has written the software to do it yet. For all you whiners, learn a bit of java and write what you want. There is nothing stopping you, not even moronic users.

cd.
