I have paired my 8700c with my Tomtom 910. It work fine as a hands free device. However it will not work with the Tomtom Plus services because the blackberry can not make a data connection with the Tomtom via bluetooth.

I was able to connect my TomTom 910 to my BB 7130c. Unfortunately, it only works for calls, and even then, you cannot use DTMF. The wireless data profile is not included on the BB. So much for plus features.

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the bluetooth capabilities of the BB.

you have to make your bb disoverable...

options / bluetooth / options / change discoverable to YES and save

now do the search from your tomtom and when the bb asks for the passkey its 0000

The bluetooth capabilities of the Treo are no better. IMHO, I think BT on a $50 cell phone is better than any PDA. That's just wrong...lol

Why the heck is this? I am thinking of picking up a freakin brick phone and just swapping out the SIM card when driving.

Hi,
Just found this thread after posting a question on the general 8700 thread.
Although I can get the BB to pair with the Tom Tom it won't then download any data such as traffic reports. It does however work hands free for normal phone calls.
Is there an incompatibility issue for data?
Thanks.
Chris

I think the blackberry is limited with bluetooth data - it only allows for hands free voice bluetooth, not data.

Its retarded on RIM's part, not tomtom.

Thanks Wangta,
Anyone know why RIM have blocked BT data transfer and if there are any plans to issue a fix?
Thanks

Angry

Solved it today on my first BIG trip out in the car.
I put electrical tape over the hands free connectors on my trusty 6 year old Nokia 6310i and paired that with my Tom Tom,not ideal but hey it works.
Can't believe I didn't research the (low)specs of the BB 8707V before buying it,oh well theres always a possibility that we'll get the 4.2 upgrade(I hope).

Default Just confirming 8700G will not work with TomTom One

I just bought a TomTom One and just to confirm the blackberry 8700 will not work. I'm going to contact the carrier and find out if there are any updates and/or workarounds.

Good luck dood - Tomtom tech support is horrendous. I actually returned my Tomtom and am waiting for a Garmin to get released.

Interesting thread - not sure about the whole data thing since I am using www.wayfinder.com with a a GPS puck. What data are you trying to get on your BB. If you have the TomTom, what do you need except the voice dialing function? Help me learn.

Stinsonddog - the problem with the TomTom Rider and my blackberry 8700c, has been the inability for the tomtom rider to connect to the blackberry, thus I cannot dial people on my tomtom and have it make the call on my blackberry. However, this has worked for some people, but for me this simple feature has not worked.

Other features *could* use if 1) you can connect the tomtom as discribed above and 2) if blackberry could send data over bluetooth, would be the tomtom traffic data. Basically the tomtom connects to phones via bluteooth connections, and the phone utilizes its GPRS or EDGE connection to download up-to-date traffic information from the web, which the TomTom will then use to most efficiently create your route to your destination. Pretty cool feature, but the blackberry is unable to send data through the bluetooth connection.

Ok so here is where the BB programs have an advantage. Are you saying TomTom only can give you traffic if you have a device that connects to the web. Seems so.

Yes, that is correct. Oh, and you also need a TomTom traffic subscription.
