Default Latest OS: 9550 5.0.0.909/5.0.0.517 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.909 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 5.0.0.909
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.517
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.250
* File name: 9550AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel909_PL4.2.0.250_A5.0.0.517_Sa skTel.exe
* File size: 109.96MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...4571FBD180E1C8

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9550:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Running it now. Only thing I have noticed is the browser appears quicker and typing seems to be improved.

Done my update. Smooth sailing, completed in about 20 mins. So far, haven't seen any issue. Will keep eyes on it for next few days to some objective opinion on the new OS.

Memory utilization seems improved a little. Typing also improved as previous poster experienced.

Can anyone report as to whether or not BES and external mail are separate in this version? Will grab it later, but am curious.

Thanks

What do you mean by "separate"?

I am on BES for corp email, also setup for external mails like Gmail, etc. There is an option that you can have all the mails go into "Message" folder, or keep them in seperate folders that were created for each mail account.

Does that answer your question?

I just completed the download and it is now showing a desktop message icon. I also received a personal email and it DID NOT show in the "Desktop" folder while my work emails do. I think this just might work!!!!!!!

No. In the .320 release, mail through BES delivered to Messaging folder, mail through external account delivered to both folders. Thanks for trying.

Not sure what the settings in .320 (couldn't remember since I upgraded to .4xx right way). Any way, I have the BES email folder called "Desktop", then, external email folders called "xxxx@vzw.blackberry.net", "xxxx@gmail.com", and [email address]". I have total three external emails and BES email setup on my 9550. Under Option of Message, there is a setting for "Inbox Settings", where listed all the email you have setup on the device with a check box in front of each account, by selecting the check box, the email will be included in Main Message Folder, you can either pick specific emails to be deliver to "Message Folder", or none of them to keep them in their own folder.

Optionally, you can also select if you want SMS and BlackBerry Message to deliver to "Message Folder" or not. Those options were there from previous OS.

All mail folders work as one would expect now (like they did in the latest 9530 OS). Have Desktop, personal, and Messages folders.

Overall, OS seems much snappier when moving between screens within apps. Killed Berryweather, but I think that was related to a lingering trial version that was installed. Was hoping to see the key indicator pop up when hovering over a key in while typing but maybe that's something I can turn on in settings...

Does this version have the key pop up indication with it? I did like that feature on the version running on my Storm 1 upgrades. Thanks in advance!

Hi

I have downloaded and installed new blackberry OS File name: 9550AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel909_PL4.2.0.250_A5.0.0.517_Sa skTel.exe, after deleting the Vendor.xml file, the problem I am facing is that the loader.exe application did not detect any new software. Please advise?

Seems snappier all round compared to .320. Lock/unlock is virtually instantaneous now. Also found that it went for the last several days without needing to be reset, unlike .320, which got sluggish after a couple days at the most. No strange or unexpected behavior yet. Glad I upgraded.
