Our business rep came by yesterday and I got to demo the VZ Navigator. It works pretty good, and he did say the 8th.

I got to play with the new Pearl. Also got to see Transformers on the new pearl

It's official. MikesTooLz must have been kidnapped by the VZW MIB and stuck in a room with no windows or doors for his crimes against the VZW GPS mafia.

I hear there's a secure facility which no cellular signal ever penetrates...it has a sign with a red "V" outside.
Late at night, passers say there are thuds and then screams...then a sinister laugh and "Say goodbye to the outside world, Mike, this is where GPS greed gets ya"....

sorry for taking so long to reply.

the rep was lying to me. He said that when the 8820 comes out a software upgrade would become avalable for the 8830 to enable the GPS.

When I asked him about useing google maps and not VZ navigator he kept trying to sell me on vznav and how it is much better. It got to the point that I said, ok just answer my question or im going to walk out right now. will the update enable GPS for use with other programs besides VZnav?

He got a frown on his face and said no it wont, but VZnav is so much better.

I asked for something on paper saying that the GPS function will be turned on in the 8830 and he said he couldnt do that. He said he only knows because he is the head rep and knows a lot.

Also that 8830 that he claimed to have was nowhere to be found. He showed me a non functioning display 8830.

what a bunch of bull.

Mike, that's actually pretty good info. Not good in a sense that we all wanted to hear, but good in a way to show that VZW reps have been trained to pull the old bait ad switch tactic to and to keep chaning the lie about GPS in the 8830 to help get customers back on board and locked into a contract. Yet for gas for that legal fire that's coming up. This is going to be good.

Verizon is pathetic. They cripple the GPS on the 8830, and then have reps like this who lie about it! Unbelievable!

Ah come on! You can be that much of a verizon fanboy, can ya? Who said anything about a lawsuit? Consumer choice gives me all the power that I need. I chose to stay away from verizon after hearing about this GPS nonsense. And the whole thing with this verizon rep lying is just shady!!

I installed VZ Navigator last night on my 8830, enabled the VZ Navigator service on my account via my account on their web page. Did a battery pull and then went to launch it. It loaded for about 2 secs and then quit! .. Bummer, if you change the BB8830 to BB8130 it will let you download VZ Navigator ... However it appears that this version of the software will only work on the new Pearl. I thought I would try and get it to work on my 8830, but failed.

I am a fan of what works so if that makes me a fan boy then so be it. I do my research prior to buying anything so I knew already what was working and what wasnt. So I have no complaints.

Not sure if anyone here read the thread I posted yesterday?

My work's rep said that the "MR2 software was delayed and that they are waiting to receive it from RIM"

I personally think we are screwed for a while. We'll find out tomorrow I guess.

I did the same thing, and got the same result.

I guess it was worth a try.

Oh I definitely agree with you that customers should do research before buying. Clearly though, the fact that Verizon has reps outright lying and misleading the customers (as was apparently the case for the OP) is pure crap! Part of a consumer doing research is going to the store, inspecting the product, and asking questions of the rep. The customer should at least expect honest answers back.
