UPDATE: Cingular is taking 2-3 business days to approve wireless orders from Amazon. They're expecting to hear back sometime on Monday for my order.

They comped my next day shipping, since I ordered something else with it and its delayed too. But that could be because I called them this morning to inquire as to the reason for the delay (even though they sent me a detailed email!!).

This is what Amazon told you? I'm trying to figure out how they would know?

I guess I might be lucky here in terms of shipment speed. My kit is definitely on a truck some place. (sure wish it would get here too!)

I used amazon standard shipping(2-4 business days), it is free for 8700. Ordered mine last friday afternoon and received it wednesday morning, exact 2 bus days.

I am typing this using my new 8700!

Wow, this is really really exciting :D

I can't wait to find out how the Cingular thing goes. I am going to do a bit more research on the coverage area t-mobile has to offer.

Liv, I just mentioned this in your 650 thread but you can go rent a BB (not 8700) from TMO and take it around with you and check it out.

Really? Whoa.

How long do you rent it for? if that is the case, I should try to rent it within this week - I will be in all the areas I need coverage in, in two weeks when I go on vacation. That would be perfect.

Ugh, I hate waiting for the mail guy, they never show up when you want them to.

Last night I spent 25 minutes waiting at the post office for the mailman to come back so I could pick up the Treo I bought, which I ended up selling because I no likey...

Dumb question , but how can i play this amazon deal if i have a 7280 and cingular plan already? Well technically, im still on the old att wireless plan so i never officially jumped over to cingular. At least thats what they told me when i asked why i don't have rollover minutes. They said i would have to upgrade my plan to a cingular plan. So maybe that makes me eligible for this deal?

In the "blow your brains out" moment of the night, the UPS truck just rolled up and my wife was hollering at me "It's here! It's here! Your BlackBerry is here!".

So I open the door to see the UPS man driving away, I look down...

...and it's the ****ing broiler pan we ordered for the new oven.

Head down to your local TMO store, ask them you want to rent/demo a phone to ensure signal availability and strength/quality. I am not sure what the time period is but I know that is what a friend of mine did a little while ago while test the 7105t.

I immediately was told that I would have to send the phone back in order to cancel the service.

I referenced the Ts & Cs on the Amazon website and i was put on hold while the CSR said she would "see what she could do for me".

She came back and told me my plan is cancelled and that I will not receive any charges from Cingular. But she alluded that I might be charged by Amazon. It seemed to me that she was was not making the distinction between not getting my money back for not returning the phone (which has been my secret plan the whole time ) versus being charged an additional fee , but she sort of stumbled over the words... Amazon might, I mean probably, I mean they will charge you a fee.

Since I didn't expect her to provide me with accurate information I finished the conversation by saying, "But I'm straight with you guys right? I mean, I will not get charged anything from Cingular." She said that that was correct.

Off to call Amazon now.

OK, so before I explain what happened at Amazon I have to say that their automatic "call me now" thing is cool.

So I just got off the phone with the Amazon rep. I told him that the rep from Cingular suggested that I would be charged an additional amount if I didn't return the Berry. He said no and we talked a bit... obviously I wouldn't be eligible for the rebate, but it's not like they would be able to charge me something over and above what I had paid already. Then he said "Boy that's a good price for a BlackBerry!" and I wanted to say NO SH*T!

So that's it. Cingular is theoretically cancelled. Amazon doesn't care if they get their phone back, and now I'm just waiting for Adam and charging my battery of course!

There's only one thing though... I'm still not confident that the woman from Cingular cancelled my account correctly. Call me paranoid, but she was at best misleading and she out-and-out lied about me having to return the phone to Amazon in order to cancel the service. That really pisses me off. If you want to give me the full court press about staying with your service that's one thing. But when you straight up lie to me that's another. Kinda makes me want to cancel three or four plans just to get back at them

Even though I think I've kinda proven the Amazon thing will work (despite some healthy skepticism and an eye on the mailbox for some BS Cingular charge), I'll keep going until I get my unlock code from Adam and connect with TMO so people have a sense of how the process works.

I was just thinking if I had missed anything and there is one thing...

I got the email from Amazon indicating that my service had been activated, and when I called to cancel, Cingular's telephony system asked for my mobile number which was obviously then presented on screen to the Cingular CSR, so I'm assuming the activation took place. But for the record I never put the sim card in the Berry and powered it up prior to cancelling. In fact, the SIM card is still sitting in the zip-top bag it came in, still attached the credit card shaped piece of plastic. I figured I didn't even want a trace of being on their network. Is this meaningful? I don't know.
