This is what I was told too as you can see from my earlier post. I called Amazon specifically to ask them whether they would assess a fee over and above the cost of the phone and they said no.
If there's been a change in policy, I don't know about it. But it strikes me that Cingular has probably seen a couple instances of people trying to do this recently
and may be doing their best to stop it. Having said this, I would recommend people continue to read the fine print to make sure the Ts & Cs haven't changed.
