Default Just got my BB 8800. So here's my question...

Please Login to Remove!

I want to be able to set up my contacts (phonebook) and edit them and so forth. Is there a way to do this on my computer desktop PC like I did with my Treo 650? What other software do I need for this?

Also, I want to add my own mp3's to this device to use them for ringtones. Any helpsies on that one?

Also, I detest the manual that came with the device. I need a more comprehensive one - Barnes and Noble?

- your 8800 syncs with outlook contacts on your pc

- look at the top of this forum and check out stinsondog's 8800 short cuts / maual etc

- you can email a link to an mp3 stored on your personal webspace or get a micro sd card and transfer it via pc

Hmmm... not sure where to go to add the additional contacts. Do I go into Outlook and add them? What application do I go to in order to edit phone contact information?

I have the Blackberry Desktop Manager installed but not sure where to go from that point...

You will need to go to your provider's (Cingular) website and download 2 exe files. The Desktop Manager and the appropriate OS for your Unit.

Install both of these. Then use the Synchronize option in DM to sync your handheld with Outlook (not OE). You will need to choose the configuration tab and then click the configure sync button. Choose Outlook for all the options you want to sync. Then check the organizer tic box on the synchronize tab and mash the synchronize button

VOila'!

You should also really read Stinsondog's stuff. That dude really knows how to explain the Blackberry.

Where do you keep your contacts on your PC? The procedure above assumes you keep your contacts in Outlook.

The Blackberry desktop manager only synchronizes your contacts between your contact store and your BB. When you fire up the desktop manager, double click on "Synchronize" and then click on the configuration tab. Then click on "Configure Synch..." to tell it where to find your contacts (and calendar, tasks, etc."

You can also load your MP3's by clicking on the Media Manager icon within desktop manager.

Hope this helps and welcome to the 8800.

You don't need the handheld OS loaded to sync...

See if the downloadable one in the Support section of Blackberry.com is any different. It sounds like you really need one. Also read up at BlackberryFAQ.com. It covers a lot of things common to all BB's. There are really just a handful of new features specific to the 8800 that an 8800-specific manual would address for you.
