Hello,
We are developing a mobile phone application(J2ME) for a BlackBerry handheld.In this application we are using servlets for fetching Data,but when calling the URL it doesn’t work and shows the IOException : Timed Out Error. We are using Vodafone sim card (Mumbai India) and it's GPRS is enabled. and we also crosscheck our applcation with other handsets like Nokia,Samsung etc. using same simcard and it's working fine.


We try to connect the URL in two ways.

1) Connector.open("http://161.117.177.166:8080/temp/chart;deviceside=true”);


BlackBerry APN setting for Vodafone
Select Option -- > Advanced Options -> TCP/IP

APN Setting Enabled Checked

APN :portalnmms

Username for APN :Left Blank
Password for APN :Left Blank

Result Is :- IOException : Timed Out.

2) Send APN Parameter along with URL

Connector.open("http://161.117.177.166:8080/temp/chart;ConnectionTimeout=120000;deviceside=true;Wap GatewayIP=010.010.001.100;WapGatewayPort=9401;WapG atewayAPN=portalnmms",Connector.READ_WRITE,true);


Result Is :- net.rim.device.cldc.io.waphttp.WAPIOException

We had almost spent more than a week for this issue but no success. kindly provide us a solution ASAP so that we can speedup our actions.

Tell me one thing pls, that APN you use is exclusive to use with blackberry's or its a general APN?
With my carrier we got 2 APN's: blackberry.net that is one to use only with BB devices and we got UMTS apn that's to be used with all other phones.
In a great number of applications we can't set manually or use the APN backberry.net, needing to use the general APN.
Could it be what's happening with you?
Sorry if what i've said doesnt make many sense but i dont have any king of experience developing applications and was just a line of thought.
