I had the 7100i and it is leaps and bounds better (8100). This thing is loaded with more features and still Blackberry tought and true.

I just got my Pearl this afternoon which is replacing my 7105T and I have to agree with SmurfBerry...this thing is quite an amazing little device. The size difference alone is astonishing!!! Keyboard and screen size are obviously smaller then the 7100's but still very legable and at least for me very easy to type on. I absolutely love the trackball, way better then the jog wheel IMHO.

The 8100 is very fast, has more memory, voice memo recorder, voice dialing, media apps, camera, and is a lot smaller than 7100 series. Also is GPS-ready.

Better to read all the threads and online reviews out there rather than to ask people to summarize for you.

I had a 7100 and the 8100 is way better.

I had the 7100t for a year, it was my first BB. I'm hooked. The 8100 is so much better! The size alone but add the quality of the screen, which is the same size as far as I can tell, and the speed. I am very happy with my pearl.

there is such a monumental difference. I would like to break my 7100t, jackass style with a sledge hammer. Don't waste another minute on the 7100t.... seriously.

Not only is the Pearl smaller and sleeker, but you get the SD-micro memory card (up to 1 GB), MP3 support for ringtones or to just play music like an iPod, camera, and improved SureType. Plus, chicks dig the Pearl. Finally, a geek can be cool!

Don't you need to "record" a voice memo before you "send" it? ;) But for what it's worth, there's a thread on this subject, and someone pointed out that, while you do (at the moment) have to attach the memo to an outgoing message, you don't actually have to transmit the message. The unsent message will remain in your message list, and you can open up and listen to any memo you choose.

yes. this much i understand. i was just hoping theres a way to save the memo itself rather than as an attachment to a message you have saved but not sent.

it seems pretty stupid that a business device such as this didnt come with that feature already built in. so that one could take memos of something you dont want to forget and refer to them later.

Hey Guys,

I was a 7105T user for the past year and I just switched over to an 8100:

Here are is my opinion between the two:

The 8100 seems more "menu driven" then the 7105T.

The 8100 if a MUCH better phone than the 7105T.

The 8100 is ALOT faster than the 7105T.

The 8100's track ball is a very nice feature except when inserting into a case - it always seems to move your cursor around when you dont want it to.

I like the ESC key on the 7105T much better than on the 8100 - now you may say - "so what" - but then really think how often you use the ESC key...

The Voice Dialing is a nice that the 7105T does not offer.

The 8100 seems to be more "customizable" for the user (move icons where you want them on the screen, or set brightness controls)

I really like the address book feature on the 8100 that offers you possible numbers or names from your address book as you type in a number.

The SureType feature on the 8100 is much more accurate than the 7105T.

I like that you dont have to hit an additional key (shift) on the 8100 to bring up your symbols chart. Its just one key now and it pops up.

I think that 7105T offers a MUCH better vibrate mode than the 8100. The vibrate on the 8100 is border-line weak.

IM seems to be alot more stable with the 8100.

The 8100's screen seems to be a bit more sharper than the 7105T.

One of the major benefits of the 8100 is when you use Remote Desktop software (when controlling a desktop or server remotely). The track ball on the 8100 acts just like a mouse, where the 7105T required you to use the Track Wheel for up & down or the SHIFT key and the Track Wheel for left & right.

That's I can think of for now - Ill update this post if any others jump into my head.

Thanks,
