Default I thought the Pearl had "chat"??

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry folks,

I know the Peral has BB messenger. But I thought the Pearl had ICQ/MSN/AIM/Yahoo chat built in too?? I read the specs, did it only mean the Pearl would support it rather than actually have the software bundled.

Thanks

Lots of chatty software to download if you want it. Do a search to pick what you want.

Hey I know what you are talking about because I had them on my phone at one point. I am pretty sure it came with the phone. It should look like a chat bubble in the menu and say IM in that bubble. If for some reason you dont have it you can try reloading the apps on your phone via desktop manager(but you gotta download the software from your carrier first to add to the cd) or try bb help web site. If you know the specific chat you want just go to them and download that one. Hope that helps.

I have a T-Mobile Pearl with the Cingular OS and I still have the Instant Messaging client with Yahoo/AIM/MSN/ICQ. It came on the phone and has stayed there through the system upgrades.

T-mobile is the only 8100 that comes with this bundled but it uses SMS so if you don't have unlimited SMS plan it can get very expencive!!. you get ICQ/AIM/MSN/YAHOO

you mean to tell me that you can comunicate all those messengers through sms and that you OWN A TMOBILE PEARL and it brought all those programs bundled up? do you have a data plan? or no?

every single tmobile person that i talk to tells me that the pearl cant instant message unless it has a data plan. and i tell them how much the PEARL SUCKS afterwards. i also read on the site and it said it had all that, after paying 211 dollars for it and renewing my plan for 2 years i quickly find out that there are NO instant messengers at all. i went to the store yesterday and they showed me another bb with something called OZ or something like that n it had ALL THOSE MESSENGERS.... did any of you guys pearl come with that too?

sorry for the rant, the phone is gorgeous, very exotic... and i know its very powerful. i just want what i payed for.

The T-Mobile one comes with the OZ bundle of messengers. You can also download Google Talk.

The OZ messenger uses text messages.

There was an issue a while ago where you had to OZ icon turned into a globe icon, but it has since been fixed if you didnt have access to it before.

Ok..
1. I have a data plan.
2. am on ORANGE UK, get GPRS (sometimes EDGE)
3. I now know I should have OZ's IM client.
4. I have registered via OPTIONS/ADVANCED OPTIONS/HOST ROUTING TABLE (as per other threads on this site)

But I do not see any icon with a little IM and the globe I do see is th eicon for the browser.

Would anyone have any further advice please?
Thanks folks...

I had the same problem. I purchased the BB Pearl a week ago from TMO and had the BB Browser, the t-zones browser, and the OZ IM application. All of them worked great, then I had a "Service book" error crop up when trying to use the BB browser, and now all of a sudden I've lost the standard BB Browser and the OZ messaging app. I downloaded the firmware from the TMO site to see if I can re-load what I needed, but it doesn't show up. What gives?

Did anyone have these messenger programs without getting the data plan? I see no reason to get a data plan if OZ messenger uses SMS rather than data. I just bought my TMO Pearl two days ago. I do not have any messenger program besides one that says "Blackberry Messenger" and that one has nothing to do with AIM/ICQ/Y!/MSN

What gives?

You can not chat without a Data Plan.
Even though OZ uses SMS, you must still be authenticated against the BlackBerry Network.
