Have installed 442 Smartone OS on our company blackberry - works fine on Vodafone but have some O2 Czech devices where we can read Japanese, option to input Japanese is there but when you start typing the language is English.

Seems only to be a problem with these devices - have wiped the devices using javaloader and reloaded the new OS but same problem.

Vendor.xml is deleted

Any suggestions on what the problem can be? Czech Models differ from UK models in their keyboard layout (swop of Z/Y keys) but can't see any other significant changes .....

I'm not 100% on this, but you could try an AllLang version such as:
"9700jAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel922_PL5.1.0.140_A5.0.0.5 45.exe"

There's even a non-beta release (same contents, but officially released) from Bell Mobility.
"9700AllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel922_PL5.1.0.140_A5.0.0.54 5_Bell_Mobility_Inc"

Check the "latest release" topics for current and previous releases.
If you have issues finding the version I am referring to, send me a PM and I'll upload it for you.

P.S. I run release 922 (PL5.1.0.140 A5.0.0.545) from the AllLang package using Japanese. However, I did not test Czech.

Am running 9700jEast Asia_PBr5[1].0.0_rel982_PL5.1.0.146_A5.0.0.578_SK_Telecom and it doesn't work on these devices.

When I look at the Japanese input options it doesn't come up with the dictionaries just
Predictive Input, Compound Words, Auto Word Learning, Use Contacts

Has anyone any ideas why this doesn't work

For some obscure reason not all of the EastAsia releases feature full Japanese support.
Often they only include Japanese Fonts etc. and not the romanji input.

As I said before, I can recommend:
"9700jAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel922_PL5.1.0.140_A5.0 .0.5 45.exe"

As I am running it right now and it includes Japanese Fonts + Input.
I'm always searching for the latest release that includes Japanese as I can't live without it

Thanks - tried the version that works for you and it still doesnt work for me on these BBs

All I know is on any other BB when i look at the language options for Japanese I can see the different dictionaries but on these czech ones there is no choice in the advanced input options.

Anyone else have any suggestions...

When I go to the language input options for Japanses I should see Available Input modes of Hiragana Karakana Halfwidth katakana fulwidth ascii and ascii but I do not see these....

Any suggestions ????

Hi,

same problem with 9700 from T-Mobile Germany.

I've tried almost all recommended device software and it does not work!!

So far, I'm in contact with another german guy at:
BlackBerry Forum - BB 9700: Eastasian Eingabesprache geht nicht

He has the same problem with Vodafone Germany devices.
According to his post, Vodafone BB support tried to install the eastasian device software on three 9700 BB's.
The input did not work on two of them!!
So they made a support case at RIM.

He told me to come back to this...

Anyway, from my point I think that there might be something "special" on these european BB itself.
I had the same problem with a Bold 9000 device before.
I installed east asian on ~15 devices without a problem.
The newest Bold 9000 device I received did not work with Japanese.
I sent it back, got another one and it worked fine.

thanks for the update - if Vodafone/ Rim manage to get a working solution would you be so kind as to update me as I've not been able to get through to O2 Czech - I think the problem is that I'm in the UK and not their customer.
