Default Is the 7100 proprietary to TMob?

Please Login to Remove!

If so, how long before other carriers will be able to sell it?

That's more like it! Prior to your message, the signal I was getting was that no other U.S.-based carriers would ever carry it. I found that hard to believe. I'm more inclined to believe what you're saying.

I'm anxiously awaiting AWS' procurement of the 7100. :P

The official site shows the 7100v now as well. It's available exclusively from Vodafone.

T-Mobile has the rights to this device for 60 days, after that it is up to the carriers if and when they will carry it. :D

With information that specific, I'm going to assume you have good sources.

Glad to hear it!

Anyone know what the cost will be without a contract plan. For instance, if I have a plan and just want to put my Sim card in it?

Wouldn't you think the T in 7100t was for T-Moble and the V in 7100v was for Vodofone? That's what I thought when I saw it. Doubt that makes it proprietary though...

Regardless of the carrier carrying the device, can someone indicate whether the device can be unlocked to work on another GSM carrier's network?

Too soon to tell, the carriers will only be interested in selling them with a new or extended contract initially.

All rim's handhelds can be unlocked if the carrier agrees.

Not everyone who does have one may want to admit it since it would confirm that they either worked for the carrier or for rim itself and they may wish to remain incognito.

I have one and it is unlocked. It is being tested on another carrier. We are a large customer of over 3000 RIM devices deployed. But the carrier I am testing for has concluded they will not carry it since new phones like Nokia 6820i will have blackberry sofware, cameras, a full keyboard like the 6820i, etc.

They will have Blackberry software or BlackBerry "like" software?
