Anyone else notice that the $100 mail-in rebate comes in the form of a Visa gift card? I think T-Mobile is counting on the fact that a lot of them won't ever get cashed in (the old gift card trick).

I called in this morning and they gave me a $179 price without the hassle of a rebate. Plus S&H and taxes of course. I am out of contract and I was transferred to customer loyalty.

I wasn't about to go into a retail store and pay $299.

Did any of you guys experience this? What did you guys do?

Last time I upgraded was in September of 2007 when the 8320 came out.
I was offered exactly the same via 611 this morning.

Several transfers and T-mobile reps later (after explaining I wasn't happy with the offer and that I'd cancel my contract and move to ATT), I was put through to the 'customer loyalty' department.

There I spoke to a lovely young lady who told me that losing me as a customer was the last thing they wanted, so they'd give me the advertised $199 for new customers price with a 2 year contract. On top of that they'd give me free priority shipping via UPS. I then asked if I could spread the $199 over my next 4 bill cycles and she said that unfortunately it wasn't available in my state, so she'd further discount my purchase by another $20 for the inconvenience. The $100 mail in rebate would also be instantly discounted so no hassle there.

So in all, I'm paying $179 for the 8900. I'm a very happy T-mobile customer - excellent customer service :D

For the record, I've been a T-mobile customer for 2 1/2 years and have upgraded mid-contract once before (pearl to curve). My monthly bill is never below $100.

I feel your pain!

I've been with Tmo for 5 years and I've been out of contract for about 5 months now. The 5 years I've been with them, I've only upgraded once. I've already called CS two times and both reps wouldn't budge on getting me the 8900 for $249. They kept insisting on the $349 with the $100 MIR.

The 2nd rep told me the reason he couldn't discount the phone to $249 was because the MIR form comes in the box from the manufacturer no matter what, and if he gave it to me for $249, I would still get the rebate form. I'm guessing he thinks I will use the form to get the phone @ $149.

I guess I will have to call retentions and use the leverage that AT&T is offering the Bold for $249 and threaten to cancel. It seems thats the only way for them to budge.

Yeah im thinking about doing the same LOL. he kept assuring me that there is no possible way anyone has gotten the 249.99 - 100 rebate deal with a 1 yr upgrade..and if I could give him their phone number so he would verfy it for me that it was not true... Wack!

I used the Bold threat (politely of course) and was able talk them down to $199 w/o a rebate. She said that the rebate form would come in the box, but that it would not be valid. Not bad considering I'm 11 months into my 2 year contract and they originally offered me $429. (I think i migh try the rebate anyways, just because i hate tmo customer service ).

yes, i went to customer loyalty and mentioned the iPhone for $199, the Storm for $199, and the upcoming Palm Pre. i went on to say the 8900 at $299 isn't as compelling and wanted "new customer" advantages that signing up with another carrier would provide me. if you're out of contract you'll get the $179 deal too with a 2yr extention. on top of that there's the $100 rebate in the box, woohoo.

Amazon has it for $99 after rebate. Don't know if that's for existing or new customers though. I can't post the link for lack of 10 posts, but just go to Amazon and search for t-mobile 8900. Free 2-day shipping too!

I called today again around lunch time with much more success! I'm not sure what department I got, but I just said "contract expiration" on the IVR. The rep I got was very friendly. I asked him when my contract expired (just to get the conversation going) and then I inquired about upgrading to the 8900. He immediately offered me the 8900 for $179, I told him I wanted a 1 year extension and he offered me $229. I immediately took it!

The payments will be split up on the next four bills and I should receive my new 8900 next Wednesday!

It only took my 3rd call to get what I wanted (I actually got a better price than what I wanted).

Did you also receive a rebate with this offer?

It was all instant, but when the phone arrives, I will see if there is a rebate form in it.

plus, i got myFavs added for free.
you should have taken the 2 year extension because thats the best price i've seen for an existing tmo customer! Nice deal with myFavs for free!

wow, same exact thing here!

Luckily I have more than one line. LOL.

I'm having no luck getting them to drop the price though! I'm reading here and seeing people getting the mail in rebate applied to the account and getting it for $149.99? WTF?!?! I've been with them since Sept 2002!!!!
