Hi Guys,
installed the beta on my 8310 two days ago.
My findings:
- Blackberry Maps Icon missing (tried everything, simply does not show)
- Device is much "snappier"
- Web browser is fast and smooth
- Email Messages look really nice now, scrolling is much faster
- Contacts are now 2 lined and also looking nicer
- Calendar has color now
- Video recording
- Voice Recorder (send via email, etc. unlimited recording)
- One reboot and your icons are hidden/shown and in default order again, custom folders are gone
Overall, you really feel the speed increase, lots of eye candy. Hope we get the "real" version soon as I don't really like using betas. But of course being a geek by heart, I had to try it!
Most annoying:
In 2 days it happened once, that the BB lost somehow network connection without showing me, so I was offline and didn't realize.
Regards,
Ralf

What do you mean custom folders are gone? :(
Are memory leaks bad for you? How is that holding up?

A couple things.
- The icons back to default problem is only on some themes. I was having this with Today Plus and switched to the L theme, no problems.
- The memory leaks from 4.3 are gone and back to normal usage. With 4.3, I was dropping everytime I checked, with 4.5 it seems to be very stable.

My impression so far: Overall, it's more of a "Nice upgrade" release, than a "Knock my socks off" release. (on my 8310)
-Voice/Video Recorder
-Documents To Go (PPT and Word ONLY)
-Some nice web browser interface upgrades/speed improvements (ooh - mouse like pointer!)
-Interface Tweaks to the Calendar, address book (appears to support multiple calendar and address books)
-Interface tweaks to email (when reading)
-Some new fonts
Other than that - not much else. As for the device being "snappier", I personally haven't seen it (at least not marked performance change either way). Some of the features might require a 4.1.5 BES or carrier BIS upgrades, which I don't have access too.

Operating systems are device specific. So, no it will not work.

I to took the plunge and loaded the beta 4.5.010 beta, I too am unable to get BB Maps icon to show, and it says it installed in the applications, however google maps works, also mobile xm radio doesn't work with this build of software. Hopefully the final build will resolve these issues. The device is not quicker, I am on BIS with TMO, the interface is nice, and the L theme is cool. But I think for RIM making us wait this long, it was not worth the wait. Maybe it will be different in the final build of the OS. But this version is very dissappointing.

I loaded it and went back to 4.2. The 8310 and the os is slow. The bb lagged on keyboard inputs.
The scrolling in the browser is buggy too.
Emails are really nice but I think carriers need a bis upgrade to really see html since they are just formatted for now.
Gps now you can also enable locations.
The L theme is awesome.
Overall once the bugs are out and a non beta is out can't wait till then 4.2 all the way.
The 8310 can't play m.youtube.com also. The player gets an error
I didn't load the bb maps so I dunno about that issue.

I think I figured out why the BB Maps is not working on the beta os 4.5.010, I think its a service book issue. I am gonna resend my service books and see if that works. Will report back
