Default Wi-Fi question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I just got t-mobile 8120 , no data plan, no t-zones, nothing. The same question I had a month ago..how do I connect to free wi-fi? When I'm trying to connect it does say I'm connected, but when I open browser and input a web address it says "error connecting to/finding server or smth..
This is when I had default set to hotspot browser.

Now, I did read posts and some of you saying to use wi-fi browser to connect. However, I dont have it. What I have is:

Options - Advanced Options - Browser:
Default browser configuration: I just have 1) Hotspot Broswer and 2) t-zones,
Default WAP browser: only t-zones.

In the list of Service Books, I have:
1) T-mobile USA WAP 2 Browser Config
2) T-mobile USA WAP2.0 transport
3) MMS config
4) WAP push config
5) Wi-Fi TCP/IP Broser
6) Wi-Fi TCP/IP Transport

Do I have to have any other service book sent to me?
I think it did not have UMA symbol when i was connected..just edge and wi-fi symbol.
Any advices? Links?
Thanks!

check for MAC filtering on your router....maybe you are seeing the network and can connect but cannot surf. Make sure your Wi-Fi icon lights up when you think you are connected and it's not greyed out, also you'll see your carrier's name on the display change to your router's SSID when you are connected, if all of that works then you should be connected as long as you have internet connectivity

wi-fi works w/o data plan subscription. It depends on a network i guess. I'm able to browse internet, log in into my gmail account. no problem. I had "data enabled" on my 8120. Hope I wount be charged for anythign extra.

It's better to see WiFi and BB-Charge separated.

You see a WiFi symbol in your BB Browser when you are using the WiFi network, so you can be sure your actions do not use the data plan or any other kind of data connection.

If you want to you can also deactivate GPRS connections in your BB's settings.
