Thanks everyone on this thread. Suddendly, this morning, the GPS started to work. I just kept hitting "refresh GPS" under the advanced options/GPS menu and suddendly it started detecting satellites. So I'm set.

Works great with Google Maps. Definitely the way to go. No sense in paying $10/month for TeleNav any more (I'm an ATT user).

I do a lot of driving since I'm in sales and have been looking at a Garmin Nuvi 360 for a few months now, but the 8310 has stolen my attention. I'd much rather have a phone that does it all, but not if i have to sacrafice a good GPS, so...

Question: Will the 8310 do a good enough job replacing a Garmin 360, or is there no comparison?

I dunno.

Only you can answer that by comparing them side by side with the features you need. I think you'll find the 8310 will be tough to beat. It does do it all.

I am using a unlocked AT&T Blackberry 8310 on T-Mobile. Anyone know how I can get the GPS to work? When I go to Advanced Options and go to GPS, I get NONE.

If you're doing a lot of driving and using a lot of GPS, I would say go with the Garmin. I tried out the Telenav service on my 8310 and was not that impressed. It was constantly "checking" the route and it interfered with the spoken directions and overall experience. Google Maps works fantastically, though my guess is if you do a lot of driving then you need the spoken directions.

You could always get both and test them out together then return the one that doesn't cut it.

For me, the GPS did not fire up consistently since I got the 8310. I have a few apps loaded, including Google Maps. Then, I freed up a bunch of memory using the tips on this board. I went from 8-10 meg free to 25 meg free, and everytime I load Google Maps, it prompts to go to my location within about 10 seconds. Works in my house, most restaurants, etc. Performance exceeds expectations now. I notice that the GPS gets sluggish to start up or does not start up if I've done alot of surfing over a day or two, alot of Google Mapping, etc. Once I do a soft reset or battery pull or Google Map reset or clear the internet cache, the GPS works instantly again at each Google map load.

Check your memory if you are having GPS consistency problems.
