Default gps on verizon storm

Please Login to Remove!

I have had the storm about 4 months now. At first I was traveling, on vacation, and had VZNav. At that time all my apps that used GPS were fine, including google maps, bberry maps, weatherbug, etc. when i returned home i cancelled VZNav. since then, none of my apps can locate me with any precision. When i open google maps, it says location within 3600 meters (about 2 miles) and then does get a better location, but never better than about 1/4-1/2 mile if i am standing still. today i was on the interstate and decided to see what... it found me to within about 1 mile, but never got me close enough to be able to use as a nav tool, although if i knew were i was, it got me close enough to find myself on the map it gave me... my settings for gps are:
GPSData source.......device
gps gps services..............location on
location aiding...........enabled
my settings for google maps are: permissions: connections.........allow interactions...........allow
user data..........allow
Hmmm...i just noticed that compatibility mode was disabled...enabled it, went outside...no change, except maps open with keyboard and it wont hide...disabled compatibility and now its back to normal, still about 1/2 mile off. any suggestions would be 'preciated
i also tried amaze with no success used their advice for verizon bberry

Did you try BB Maps? There was at one time an issue with GoogleMaps on Verizon phones. The 1/2 mile error you see is because it is using cell tower triangulation to get a fix until GPS locks on.

Can you get a lat/long on the GPS screen itself?

I don't suppose you'd want to try a wipe and complete reinstall of the OS? Might be some odd VZNav relic in there.

'preciate the feedback...tried bbmaps-it just keeps on "searching for satellite", cant get a current location. i haven't had VZNav since i installed 5.0.0.328, so i dont think there could be any remnants. i guess verizon has this locked down unless i pay for VZNav...

Well, I'm on VZW, with a 9530 on v5.0.0.328, and use Google maps just fine. Resolves to a just a few meters.

When you update the OS, it backs everything up and restores it all, and perhaps it restored the problem along with everything else.

Before settling on re-upping on VZNav, I'd:

1) do a complete wipe (I use JL_Cmder),
2) reinstall the OS, and
3) reinstall the apps.

A beta OS that messed me up bad left trouble for one app after reverting to .148, and doing this cleared it. PITA, for sure, but cheaper than VZNav.
