There's been discussion in the past in this forum that the 8830 from Verizon was going to have WiFi. What's up with that? I see no WiFi capability in the specs from Blackberry or from Verizon. I'm thinking this is all smoke and no real substance here. Will there ever be a Blackberry with WiFi?

Looks like I will be getting this on sprint rather than verizion since their gsm services will be unlocked.

not locked alltoghether, just locked to gsm carriers of verizons choice

Been lurking around here for awhile doing some research if I want to cave in and purchase a Blackberry for personal use (since WM and Palm has been utter failures for me). I have a wild feeling that Verizon will disable/cripple the GPS feature and RIM is hinting at this fact too now. The new link for the 8830 that's located here - BlackBerry 8830® Smartphone Wireless Handled Device | Sleek Design with High Performance Features | Global Roaming mentions to "Check with service provider for supported features and services." And it's in regards to GPS. Bleh.

Might have to leave Verizon after all. Yay for crippling features and completely locking out handsets.

I am hoping it will be upgradable to Rev A. The CDMA titan (the ppc-6800, p400 et all) will be. Hopefully RIM used one of the qualcom CDMA chips that supports Rev A and we will just need to wait for a software update once Rev A handsets are launched.

Sweet! I will be getting this on Sprint the day it's released! Glad to see Sprint didn't lock it like Verizon did...Verizon's reason is to "ensure the quality of the network." BS...more like "to ensure a revenue stream for us." I am also glad Sprint doesn't disable GPS, so I can continue using Mapquest like I do on my 8703e. Can't wait!

I was wondering if this device will be able to be used as a modem. I am using the 8703e and it does not have this functionality.

So what you are asking is: If I dont want the network it runs on and I wont be using its key feature should I still buy it?

Other differences between the Sprint/Verizon version and the Cingular version are:

-Vzw has high speed data (for web browsing and tethering)
-Vzw version is slightly taller
-vzw version is a nasty silver color
-Cingular version will have slightly better battery life

Huh? The 8703e does have tethering functionality. I use it on my Sprint 8703e all the time, as it's included in the BB plan. Verizon does offer it, but at an additional cost.

I don't see why not?! You have an internal memory card that may have photos, music, audio files etc on it right? so why should they limit your ability to send those over MMS for short data messaging instead of using email or some other portal network connection.?!?!???
