Exclamation Unable to send/receive SMS

Please Login to Remove!

I just got the Blackberry Curve 8310 and I'm unable to send/receive SMS texts. I've to the blackberry plane thru at&t that says I have unlimited messaging and I've checked the message center number etc... Anyone have any other suggestions on what to do?

Welcome to BB Forums.
Is this a new BlackBerry or was it previously used. It may have an "IT Policy" on it that has diabled texting.

May not help, but try removing the battery for a few seconds and putting it back in. That seems to resolve lots of problems.

I would call AT&T and have them check the provisioning.

Just curious, in the Messages folder > Menu > do you have the option to "Compose SMS"? You should see choices for "Compose Email" and "Compose PIN" as well as the SMS option.

So, just for clarity, when you compose an SMS, to a working cellphone #, and hit send, what happens?

It gives me the little red check mark like it suposedly was sent, however I've tried texting to several different numbers and they never receive what I've sent... They also try sending me texts that I never receive

If you go to Options > SMS Text do you have a number in the Service Center line? What does it say for Network To Send Over? What does the Data Coding say?

[Edit] The little red check mark, is that an X? I always have a blue check if the message is sent successfully and a red x if it's not. I suppose the color of the mark could be different on a different theme.

When you send an SMS are you using the area code and phone number or just the phone number? If you're using just the 7-digit phone number, try using an area code as well. Send one to yourself to test.

What is the firewall set to? Go to Options > Security Options > Firewall. Are any of the boxes checked for Block Incoming Messages?

Where it shows the check mark, just open it and check MSG Status and confirm it says sent.

Otherwise was it a new number with this company? or what is a port from another company?

it does sound strange that you cant receive either.

It is set with 7bit Data Coding, GSM network to send over, and the supposed correct service center number

What about the Firewall settings?

At this point, your best option would probably be to try sending an SMS using the 10-digit phone number if you're not already and check the Firewall. If that stuff seems like it's correct then call your carrier. Something may be missing with your account.

You're replying faster than we are.

When I say use the 10-digit phone number, I mean instead of sending an SMS to xxx-xxxx, send it to xxx-xxx-xxxx (using the area code).

So none of the check boxes are checked? Okay. Your only option is to contact AT&T. If the problem isn't something easy to find out your account chances are they'll have you check some of the same stuff we've posted here about.
