BB Maps requires a service book under OS 4.5. On 4.2 it did not. ATT does not send the service book for BB Maps. That's why it doesn't show up any more. It seems like there are some threads about loading the old version of BB Maps but I don't know where off hand. Have to search around.

Easy procedure. Delete the Blackberry Maps service book from your device. Download a version of 4.2 for your device and install to your PC. Extract the net_rim_bb_lbs_*****.cod modules from the 4.2 Java directory. Delete The 4.5 net_rim_bb_lbs_*****.cod modules from your device and load the 4.2 lbs modules to your device.

Could there be a service book that will show the bb Maps as there is for a bb Browser described here: Blackberry Links of Interest ‎(Blackberry Tips & Tricks from the Mods)‎

Hi reborn30,
Follow Raptor464's post to get an older BB Maps version working ie if you have the same AT&T situation. I also used the same method and now I have BB Maps working - the old version of course, I don't have AT&T tho.
Raptor464's post is the third post before yours - reborn30.

As your carrier (in your profile) is "orage", which is not AT&T, please report problem to your carrier "orage" asking them to resend you Service Books. I hope this helps.

Installing this link OTA will launch BBMaps on at&t (if bbmaps is installed).

I had tried that but it gave me a java error. I decided to look into it again and, while looking, I discovered that the BBM migration wizard had brought my old version of BBMaps along with it and that the BBM showed both as installed. I couldn't get it to remove the old version so I went to a different PC, loaded the latest BBM and used it to fix it.

Now it's working great. Thanks for the nudge!

Default got BBM icon on 4.6 but get error Maps is disabled

As per "creepy", Installing this link OTA will launch BBMaps on at&t (if bbmaps is installed: <link to bbmapslaunch.jad>

OK. this installed an BB Maps icon under folder "Downloads"
However, when I click on it, I get "Maps has been disabled"

Here is what I tried:
1) deleting Vendor.xml file under AppLoader - no go; Desktop Manager refused to start without it and I could not reinstall BB Maps without
2) downloading an older version of BB Maps - no go; both AT&T and Blackberry web sites do not list application anymore. We have to go through their malls which will not download anything than the most recent version

I have 4.6.0.304 (platform 4.0.0.247). Anyone has found how to enable BB Maps with service books on the most recent OS?

found the answer from another thread:
make sure you have the latest 4.6 software installed then open AT&T browser on BB and access:
mobileapps.blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code-maps_sbi

Default BBMaps Icon and folder not shown on screen

Tried the procedure but unfortunately the .ALX file after edited by Wordpad cannot be saved. The OS downloaded from Etisalat here in Abu Dhabi does not permit any modification to the .ALX file even though I signed in as Administrator on my computer. Any Help to overcome this issue would br greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Open the file.

Edit the file as desired.

Do a "Save As" and save the file to another location.

Then copy and paste the file to the original location and overwrite the old one.

This is a Vista problem. Not an OS problem.
