Unhappy Upgrade OS On 9700 With "New" Mac...No-Go???

Please Login to Remove!

Please forgive my noob-ism here, but I just bought a used 12" G4 PowerBook as my first venture into Mac-land, after being comfy with Windows for so long. I was all excited about things, and in preparation for my new 9700 that's coming in the mail soon...I loaded the BDM for Mac easily and quickly...

However, when I tried to download the latest/greatest AT&T Official OS build...it took forever, and when I saw it estimated 2-hours to load, I cancelled it.

Now I hear that I cannot even upgrade my OS with my "new" Mac since it's not intel-based. It's running Leopard OSX...if that helps anything.

I am so bummed.

Will I have to go back to Windows to upgrade and sync my BlackBerry?

Since you are using a G4, the short answer is Yes. Or set up a windows instance on the Mac.

System requirements:

* Mac OS X v10.5.7 and above (Only 32-bit mode is supported on Mac OS X v10.6)
* BlackBerry® Device Software v4.2 or higher
* iTunes v7.7.1 or later

Plus OS updates are exe files which will not run on a Mac. Official OS releases from your carrier will work, however.

Starting out with a G4 as your entry into the Mac world was somewhat of a bad idea.
The G4 is VERY old at this point.
Before you write-off Apple completely... you might want to try a machine that's a little more current. Just an idea.

I really like my MacBook Pro. I started with a G4 several years ago however. Still have it.

Well, you're probably right. I just figured that before I dropped $1500 or so on a MacBook Pro or something...and didn't like it, I would drop $200 where it wouldn't hurt so bad.

If I had known that I would pretty much have to stay with this stupid iPhone until I did something different...I would have done differently...

Classic case of shoulda-woulda-coulda...

$200 will buy you a netbook, not a real laptop. If you think the G4 has problems, wait until you get that $200 PC.
