Thanks for the tip on TMO 4.1. Installed it and Zen worked except that when highlighting an Icon the Icon desription doesn't show as it did on the HK CSL 4.1. Reloaded via OTA and still no go. Is there a more recent version of Zenthan the one Jibi posted in the original 7100 Zen post "http://www.knology.net/~acidmax/blackberry/7100_zen/7100_zen.jad"? If so is it OTA?

With 4.1 I lost "Compose". Was able to press C and get in. Was it substituted for the multiple in-boxes?

Wirelessly posted (penkberry: BlackBerry7100/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
installed to my 7105t last night (up from the HK .300, after a JL_Cmdr wipe) and crashed about the handset to see the basic changes.
the application title bar had returned to its normal size on the default t-mo theme (no biggee).
activated the Dimension Icon theme and immediately the memory began to dwindle (irritating), then loaded Zen and watched the memory dwindle more (still irritating, but expected).
the application menu now offered the Organize Application option at the end of the list, not just through Options (handy but superfluous - big whoop).
lost the now much-used and much-more-loved home screen shortcuts to Address, Calendar and Options (BIG biggee).
thought to myself "play with it over the weekend" then said "screw it", wiped the device again and went to cingular's .314 (time consuming).
cingular's .314 seems very much like HK's .300 but the hourglass drains faster (fewer growing pain lags so far) and i'm happy to have home screen shortcuts again.
i've been using 4.1 for some time now, so i've approached this as a compare/contrast to previous 4.1 releases - were i still using 4.0 the changes would be dramatic and substantial. also, while the Zen theme is not intended for my handset per se, the OS changes have had an affect.
while i didn't spend much time with it, t-mo's 4.1 release seemed to change things that didn't need changing (par for the course) and unfortunately they chose to change the things i like and didn't add anything significant to compensate (jerks).

Well put! Why take away shortcuts or the ability to clean up the appearance?

keep in mind that ANY future upgrade by Cingular or whomever your carrier is will result in the same thing - these weren't features T-Mobile removed; RIM removed them.

The version of Zen available on the 7100s is the latest version available to the public. The later OS versions have removed the 'Home Screen' option, which is where you were able to select it to show the names, and replaced it with the 'Organize Applications' (bypasses the two options found otherwise within 'Home Screen'). This is a feature of the OS rather than the Theme.

For what it's worth, the phone volume and clarity seem to be good on this os. I've used it a few times today and I think it is as good as the HK .300. The new Cing os is not, it is, IMO, awful!
jibi, why would RIM remove the shortcuts from the Zen home screen? They were handy. Is there a "dial from home screen" setting on the 7100? I looked but could not find it. I thought it might affect the shortcuts.

Same here, I just finished upgrading and no Zen theme. Just Dimension, ROGERS, Vodafone, Verizon, O2, Insight and Tmobile.

Do you still have the shortcuts when using Zen. A for contacts, L for calendar, etc...?

No I do not have the shortcuts anymore. Question for everyone. The verizon theme works pretty good is there anyway to make a custom theme based on that? Mainly to get rid off the verizon checkmark pic.

Bottom line guys...
Is it worth upgrading? Im not the type of guy that chases versions just to say I have the latest...it has to "give" me something to want to upgrade...
Other than one guy saying you can now just turn off "data" which is pretty cool - is there really any major reason to upgrade to 4.1 on the handheld?
Thanks,

I'd say no, there is really no gain and you do loose some nice features like the shortcuts.

Goofy download prob
Successfully downloaded the latest TMO Desktop software onto my laptop @ home. This laptop uses Norton Anti Virus.
PROB: Once I try to run the latsest DT MGR and it starts unzipping all of the sudden the Norton Anti Virus window pops up and it starts downloading the ENTIRE Norton program instead of unzipping and running the latest DeskTop Mgr???
I rarely use my 7100t since I went to the 8700c (last Nov.) but I will use it as a backup phone during my upcoming trip to GER as it is unlocked. I just wanted to get the latest HH software version onto it.
Any ideas???

yes - the changes from 4.0 to 4.1 are remarkable - everyone should be using BBOS 4.1
(just not necessarily the latest version of 4.1)

I downgraded both mine and GF's back to 4.0.2.69.
Speed slowdown was noticeable under 4.1. Device (7290) simply felt sluggish under 4.1
Didn't care for the changes they made.
Lost shortcut key function in Google Local
Batter life was poorer.
YMMV.
Luck.
