Default Does 8703e retain data when battery is completely drained

Please Login to Remove!

Just got the 8703e from Alltel.

Before this Blackberry, I had the Samsung I730 (Mobile Windows) from Verizon. On that model if the battery got too low or the battery was out of the device for more than a few minutes, the all the data stored in the PDA was lost.

What happens to a Blackberry when the battery is completely drained or the battery is left out of the unit for a while? Does the BB retain all the settings and data (i.e. addresses, notes, etc)?

Thanks,
Doug

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

If you run low on memory, then you may lose some of the data.
Don't confuse the two.

Think he was talking about power not memory.

Yes, I was talking about power. I guess the bottom line question is, if I don't or can't recharge my Blackberry for a long time AND the battery runs completely down, will I lose all my data and settings OR when I charge it back up again, all the data and settings will be there ready to go?

I always had to worry on my Samsung i730 PDA about the battery getting too low. If it did, a warning popped up and said to recharge the battery or all data would be lost forever!

Thanks
Doug

Your data and settings will be there whether you have the battery out for a day or a week.

It depends.
Is your device on a BES?
If so, there is a chance that you could have IT policy settings in place that will cause the BlackBerry to automatically wipe itself if the battery gets too low.
This is a security feature that can be put in place by your BES administrator if they choose to do so.

If you don't have an IT policy on your device, then you don't need to worry about it being wiped as a result of low battery. The above responses have indicated that as well.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I now don't have to worry about losing data if my battery gets too low. They was always a concern with the Samsung PDA phone. There was a small area in memory called "safe store" that wouldn't lose the data if the battery got too low, but for the most part most of the pda's memory and settings would be wiped out.

I am really enjoying my BB 8703e from Alltel.
