I have had multiple 8820 and notice a build quiality issue the sides squeak as well as the entire phone. PLease let me know if anyone else has the same problems

I have no build quality issues with my 8820 (made in Mexico, BTW).

The bottom of my phone squeaks a little. Solid otherwise and no dust!!!

I have tried most of them and the 8820 has the best feel, keyboard and overall build quality I have experienced. Well that does not include my 7520 which is still the best!

If it makes you feel better, my 8830 squeaks all over the place, I have heard this from many other 8830 users. When I played with the 8820 at a AT&T Store, it was noticeably better built with less squeaking.

i just got an 8820 today (upgraded from an 8800) and so far the build quality is the best i have had on a blackberry, only time will tell though!

I'm on the fence.

The last active BB I had was the 7130c. I withdrew from BB goodness early 2007, but I'm considering rejoining the fold.

The 7130c I have is creaky as heck (I pulled it out to verify). Last night I saw the at&t Curve (Ti and Red) and was a bit let down by the softness of the bottom portion under the keys, which would get the "shift" keys to depress when you squeeze the area around the logo.

Plus, none of the store models (or new stock I had the patient salesman pull for me) has aligned LCD displays. They were all rotated a pixel or two. Yeah, that bugs me.

More disturbing was I found the Send/End keys to be mushy feeling. Or, less "clicky" vs the other keys on the Curve.

I was pressed for time and didn't have a chance to fiddle with the newer 8820. Would you folks say it's better built than the Curve? Good "clicky" keys and no creaks/squeaks?

I havent noted any squeeking from my 8830 case at all it is solid built. My one concern is that it is not really a very hard use instrument. I dropped it 2 ft at work reaching for it when someone was handing it back to me and he dropped it before I got a hold of it. I have a small hairline crack in the black case about a 1/32 of an inch long. It cannot be seen unless the light is right and you are looking for it however. but I know it is there!

That is why I am trying to get a protective case for it.

P,S, My keys are very clicky yes. even the phone keys. I do like that!

the 8800 series, as nice as they look, are really terrible in build quality, this is over a few months they wear in, but i can buy a cheapo lg/moto/etc phone and they dont squeak or feel like their comming apart =/ just my 2cents

OK, it's two weeks later... I've been using a new Samsung now but I'm still aching for real email and tactile keys (the at&t A717 I have has flat keys, and the menus are painfully slow and takes multiple steps to do anything).

I've come to realize that functionally, the 8820 is my best bet (push mail, QWERTY, casual wifi browsing). But, I'd still love to hear from other 8820 owners about their build quality stories.

I'm hearing two things:
It's solid
It's not solid

pspiegel said "only time will tell" and that's probably the best test. Any more 8820 owners care to comment on build quality over time (creaks/squeaks)?

I not only have NO build quality issues, I find my 8820 to be the very best in terms of build quality of all the BB's I have. And I have at least one or more of every model released this year.

The 8310 is a very close second.

I have noticed a nice improvement in the build quality in both the second generation of the 88xx series and 83xx series as I had two of each of the original 8300 and 8800 before buying the new versions offered by AT&T which as we know are the 8310, and 8820.

I have a lot of time on mine and could not be happier.

feels more solid than my curve. but it could just be the extra weight and size. its got that brick in your hand feeling.
