Right, so I'm new to blackberrys but not inept with technology, so I'm wondering if someone can lay out a detailed explanation of getting this Gmail mobile app to work on this phone....
Here is what I'm working with:
8120
T-Mobile Hotspot@Home service
Unlimited Blackberry Email plan
So, I have downloaded the Gmail app on my phone and I am not able to sign in. I recieve the error "Network unavailable: This program requires a data connection, and some BlackBerry devices require reconfiguration to work properly."
Here are the things I have tried so far...
1.) In my gmail account settings, I changed POP access to ALL mail (Forwarding and POP/IMAP options)
2.) "Use default text encoding for outgoing messages" is on (General options)
3.) Registered with my host routing table
Any explanation as to how to get this work correctly would be much appreciated (as I would not like to pay the extra 9.99 a month fee for blackberry mail, when I could just use wifi to check gmail with googles app.....)
Added bonus and very strange phenomenon:
Apparently you need a full data plan to use the instant messaging programs (AIM, G-talk, Yahoo, etc..) and upon trying to use Google talk on this phone, I recieved the error "This service not enabled on this Handset".....
I was disappointed in this, and after fiddling for a while at home the other day, my girlfriend sends me a message over google talk, and I hear it beep on my computer as normal - but it also shows up on the phone somehow! I now have google talk running while connected to WiFi, and also while NOT! I have no data plan on my account and I am not sure how this is working....but who cares lol
Same issue here on my 8120. Driving me crazy. I'm a BES user with a full unlimited data plan but can't get gmail app to run. Keeps indicating that some BB need reconfiguration the gmail FAQ are empty on this subject..............
Tried everything, pushing service book again, checked admissions but can't get it running.........
So your gmail APP isnt working. Specificaly your gmail email account isnt being pushed into your aphone. Well I know for a fact all you need is the 10 dollar email add on, ou dont need full date with T-Mobile. Have you tried setting it up through mytmobile.com If you log into mytmobile.com and access your account threre should be a link for blackberry email. THe network should recognize your device and the link should be pretty obvious. I think it is in the lower left hand corner. Click on the link and it will prompt you to enter you blackberry pin number. It should verfify your device, then ask you to enter your email address you want configured along with the password. Clock configure and you should stat recieving gmail email with in 20 minutes. I hope this works. Hope to hear from you soon.
