Is there a web-based email like hotmail, yahoo or gmail that you can setup on blackberry and send you instant notifications or alerts when you receive new mail? Something that works like SMS or MMS?

Yahoo and Gmail are the only "instant" BIS emails out there. They both work pretty good. In my opinon Yahoo works just a little better as far as reconsiling. When you delete an email on your BB it deletes on the server and vis versa.

Yahoo and GMail both offer instant push messaging with BlackBerry.

are you asking is there a way to bypass the blackberry data plan and have all of your emails delivered via SMS/MMS ? why would you want a blackberry then?

Hi zerog46, is it going to work even if I'm on a BES?

Yes they should as long as there is not I.T. policy preventing you from accessing a third party email...

Hi JGBerry, sorry that's not what I meant. I already have my company email setup on my BB and aside from that I'd like to setup 1 web-based email on my device that will give me instant notifications when there's new email. How do I setup it up? Do I just download the Gmail or Yahoo app online?

iIf you forwarded messaged from hotmailto one of the other accounts would it be just as fast or would the hotmail account still slow it down?

You can only foward a Hotmail account to another Microsoft email account, I.E. MSN or Live.

Zerog46, my carrier NTT Docomo doesn't have a BIS. Would this push mail work if I just download the gmail and yahoo apps to my BB?

There is an app. you can download for Google. You can use the web access for Yahoo, or you could use Yahoo Go.

Really? How can they provide BB data without BIS?

I was wondering the same, I can't find a BIS Website for them, maybe that's what he meant.

Y-Go! for Yahoo offers email through their app. I personally didn't like it - slow and prone to freeze. But it might do what you want if setting up your account to come to your BB like regular mail isn't a option. You might have to leave Y-Go! idling in the background to get the notifications, and even then you might not see them until you re-open Y-Go!

Hi Takeshi, although we are connected to the Blackberry network, we get our Internet from the BES.

I download the gmail app here, gmail.com/app and installed it. I get a notification when a new mail is received but I have to leave the "Preload messages and check mail in the background for faster access" option selected. Unfortunately, I don't have an unlimited data plan so I just decided to forward all gmail emails to my work email. That would be my notification.

Thanks to everyone for your great support!

That shouldn't affect availability of BIS. Actually... what's this?

Hi Takeshi, I've just confirmed with Docomo that they don't have BIS yet. The site you provided is a test site because they are planning to provide that service soon. I tried creating an account but it failed. Currently in Japan, BB's are only available to corporations as there is no BIS service available.
