Default bug glitch w/t-mo 7100t 4.0.2.32/49 upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

have noticed a couple of bugs/glitches with my 7100t following the 4.0.2.32 upgrade, but have not found any mention here or at hofo of same or similar. an associate is also experiencing the same.

we are both running t-mobile 7100t handsets (native theme), using the BWC and we each updated to 4.0.2 just over a week ago. i have only two or three third party RSS apps loaded (choosing one of them to keep) and he has no third party apps onboard. he frequently uses a Plantronics BT headset, and i only occasionally use a corded Jabra EarBoom. he is a heavy SMS user with generous voice; i am a heavy emailer and SMS messager with heavy voice and heavy browser use.

considering the differences above, these bugs are most likely caused by the 4.0.2.32 update package:
  • call timer is frequently inaccurate. apparently the call timer is studying the theory of relativity as i can time via analog clock a 10 minute call, only to have the timer show 1:52 when the call is disconnected. a call initiated at the onset of a 30+ minute drive will conclude with an elapsed time of 10 - 15 minutes with change. these calls are made far from the oregon vortex, so i'm at a complete loss on this one.
  • on occasion (read: difficult to reproduce), adjustment of the volume via trackwheel will generate a "pop-up" bar in the status field in the lower screen region. this will be a slate gray window, bordered in black with no text within (this is very different from the call-waiting window, so it cannot be a "failed" or interrupted incoming call). when this appears, the handset freezes and no further response is generated from the trackwheel or any other key, aside from the red "End" key. this has happened using the handset speaker and the speakerphone, but this does not occur when switching between the two.
so... that's that. i'm aware that it is probable (as reported here) that there will be a new update released with the impending BWC overhaul and these bugs may not be a concern for long. but before i go making calls to Care and Tech, i'm curious if anyone has noticed these issues, or if maybe my friend and i are nimrods.

I just noticed the call timer problem as well. I had a 15 minute call and it said it was 29 seconds long. I sent TMO an e-mail to see, but no response yet. Usually takes a day or two.

i put this up here also.

duce95 had this to say:
Quote:
I had the same problem with the blue box in the lower (sometimes upper) part of my 7100 after installing the new software. I tried reinstalling and backing up only my phonebook and resyncing, with the same result. I called blackberry to see if it was a known issue, it was not (yet!). They called TMO for me and bypassed all the trouble shooting flows for me. I got my replacement handset that was preloaded with the 4.0.2.32 and no blue box! I think it might be the upgrade file. So I would do the same if I were you. Blackberry said it was a hardware problem. I would call Blackberry Cust Care to do the same..
i think it's funny that each reply addressed a different bug.
but odd things strike me funny.

Default damn box

so i have been through 2 7100's and now a 7105. and still mr blue box comes to visit every now and then. i hate it. i have other co-workers that see it sometimes too. so i think it must be new bug that came with 4.0 software. i never had it on 3.8.. maybe 4.1 will have better luck.

any one heard of a fix?

Well if you don't mind losing the t-mobile theme (well you can actually reload it...) You could switch over to running the Cingular software on your phone until t-mobile releases a fix.

I have a similar type of bug with a nextel 7520. I had a replacement BB sent out that came with the newest software for a 7520 which is 4.0.2.37. I'm not sure if it happened before or after I added Yahoo Messenger but when I call someone it sometimes says "Push to Talk" (which is what it is supposed to say when walkie talkie-ing) and then sometimes when I walkie talkie it will have a timer in the upper left corner which is not supposed to be there during a walkie talkie call. And the timer is frozen.

So this is a similar type of problem......?

I've just noticed that whilst on a call...when the screen has blanked...look at the phone and turn the trackwheel. You will see the time quickly flash up as what it was before the screen went into stanby, and then quickly change to the correct call time.

Maybe this is what you are seeing. When you hangup, it brings the screen out of standby, and you see the call time prior to the screen blanking...before it has time to update the timer, the call has ended, so all you see is the time before the screen blanked......those with times longer than their screen time-out may have knocked the trackwheel during the call...just a theory though

not a bad theory, either.

began to consider this as well, since the backlight timeout (on my device) is set to the 2 min. maximum, and that maybe it was remembering the last displayed time.

but...

i started watching for this, and it's still wonky. the call timer counts on too many of my phone calls are 1:5X and nearly all of my calls are either short and under a minute, or lengthy at 15 or more.

<sigh>

ol' graybar is the more annoying pest.

I'm on a 7100v and recently upgraded to 4.0.2.35 also. I have noticed the same problems you are facing as well once. So far it hasn't happened again since. The call time was wierd where after ending the call it say 30mins duration on screen when it was actually only about 10mins. In the call logs, it says the correct 10mins.

The grey/black "pop up" bar problem has only happened once and I'm unsure how it happened. I think I was trying to adjust the volume during a call. Only after ending the call it went back to normal.

Thanks very much...it was worth a shot

Guess we'll have to keep looking/waiting for a solution...it's not really a problem to me, as I don't really check the counter whilst I'm on the phone.

As for the grey bar...I've never come across that one yet.

Telstra just released 4.0.2.86 for the 7100. You might try that.

4.0.2.86 hmm

Maybe this could fix the problems some people have reported with grey boxes appearing or problems with call timers.

Has anyone tried installing the Telstra release OS. v4.0.2.86 . Will it be ok if I install 7100g OS onto my 7100v?
